Saw this on my Facebook last night... Not that Emma Watson isn’t super stylish, but out of everything she’s accomplished in her life Elle is just going to focus on her clothes? Emma has been a part of one of the most successful movie franchises in history, she has a degree from Brown, she’s fighting so hard for gender equality, and she even helped launch the HeForShe campaign, and all Elle wants to do to celebrate her birthday is talk about her style? Emma is a great role model for younger girls (or at least in my opinion), and I think that some of her bigger accomplishments should be featured since she has done so much beyond just acting and being pretty. I know the audience for this magazine probably wants to see style, but I think that a celebration of someone’s life (Pretty much what a birthday is) should at least include some of their greatest accomplishments... even if they aren’t the main feature.

*Yes I am aware that one of the outfits is from one of something she wore for a HeForShe speech, but there was no real explanation as to what the event was, or why she was involved. It was just about the dress.

Disney Princesses of Different Races

Possible Trigger: Race

So, I love Disney, and there’s and artist on Tumblr who took a bunch of the princesses and made them different races. I think it is so cool how different some of the girls look, but they still look awesome (in my opinion). I’m so used to the cookie cutter princesses that when I saw the new images I was completely taken aback. It makes me wonder what the actual Disney company would come up with if they started making actual Disney princesses of different races. I think it is about time for them to get it together and put some diversity in their princesses.

Here is 2 College Humor Videos in which people are used to represent fonts. This is a pretty good way to see which fonts give off what kind of aura, and what people think of them.

The first video is Helvetica’s gang vs. Arial’s gang. Each group has a couple of different fonts represented each with their own personality.

The second video is a font conference in which you hear multiple fonts -- including wingdings -- try to solve a problem. I don’t want to spoil anything by saying what happens so I’ll just let y’all watch them.

I found this cool visual that shows how the news of Ferguson spread over Twitter as time passed. You can see how it exploded in North America and Europe and then moved on to other places around the globe.

For some reason there is a whole series of stock photos of this guy which can be found compiled here as “the best stock photos on the internet.” Apparently this man is supposed to be Shakespeare using modern technology. I’m just trying to figure out at what point someone needs Shakespeare looking like this, but then again this is the Internet, so anything can happen.

Here's my mid map; I feel like it's pretty simple compared to a lot of other ones out there...

Here's a screenshot of People Magazine's website. This relates to Warner's views on gossip and how it can involve public figures. This whole magazine pretty much runs on gossip. This magazine circulates throughout America, and people buy it just to judge celebrities, and they pretty much put them in "In Groups" and "out groups" based on the gossip circulating about them. Lindsay Lohan is currently being ostracized because she is in legal trouble which is generally frowned upon in society.

The Lines Between Publics

So, today was Ash Wednesday which is why you may have seen some people walking around campus with black spots on their foreheads (they're supposed to be crosses).

I'm Catholic, so I did go to mass, and while I was there I actually found myself thinking about publics and how everyone in the church was at least part of a Christian or Catholic public since we were all participating in the same church activity. At the same time you could see a difference in all of us. 

Some people were really dressed up while others wore a simple T-Shirt and jeans. Some people knew every word to everything while you could see others stumbling to keep up with the traditions. It occurred to me that while we were all part of a sort of Catholic public at that point, everyone was at a different level of understanding concerning the church.

I feel like this could apply to other publics as well like someone who's a huge fan of a band and decides to go to a concert. There may be another concert goer who is technically in a public for being at the concert, but they are only there because their friend dragged them.

Basically I'm saying that the lines between publics are not so obvious.
