Just a thought but imagine a fresh Cadet Kathryn Janeway meeting Second or third year Cadet Beverly Crusher. Now imagine them having know each other somehow through parents or something as kids but not talking much till the academy. Now imagine Kathryn not always being super fit and trim, imagine she’s still got baby fat but Bev is trim and elegant and talented and all things still young Kathryn might think she is not. Now imagine her being so nervous and crushing so hard and trying to be as helpful and nice as she can to Bev, including bringing her tea or coffee when she has long shifts in winter at this local shop. Imagine Beverly complimenting Kathryn nonstop and they eventually hang out more which evolves into both asking each other out on a date simultaneously and just I want cute young Kathryn and Beverly with Bev being the more alpha but bringing out the confidence in Kathryn okay?
meeting again after being separated for a year seven years
I'M SORRY DID SOMEONE SAY KATIEBEV CUZ THAT'S WHAT I JUST HEARD
(also I wrote this in twenty minutes and didn't really look it over)
"When you get back, mon capitaine, we are going on a date."
"You're rather confident, aren't you, Doctor?"
"That's not a no, now is it?"
"We'll just have to see."

It's Thursday and I'm here, Kathryn, watching the news. What was supposed to be a first date turned into my mourning into a coffee...? Am I mourning for you, or for not getting to go on a date finally again? I barely know...knew you and you're already gone.
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
They're saying you're probably dead and yet I don't think so. You're too stubborn.
--
I'm supposed to be sharing coffee with you right now. I can't help but wonder if you're wearing that green dress anyway. It does wicked things to your eyes.
I miss you...I think we would have been good for each other, had this date gone well. I hope you find happiness, Beverly.
Don't wait for me.

Kathryn sat on her ready room couch, watching the earth, still in disbelief. The past week's event and top speed arrival hadn't truly had time to sink in. A padd pinged from the cushion next to her, indicating yet another incoming message.
With a sigh, she reached for it, planning to probably ignore another congratulations from yet another admiral.
Instead, her face broke into a stunning grin, and her heart began to race. She jumped from the couch and threw the padd aside. Rushing through the bridge, she transferred command and informed them that she was actually going to take that evening of leave she previously turned down.
Chakotay later went into her ready room to find a report. Picking the padd up from the floor near the door, he grinned and set it on her desk. He looked forward to gently teasing her later; the news of her excited exit quickly travelled the ship.

Night Owl. As soon as you can get away. I'm the one wearing the green dress.

My dear old friend, Tuvok,
Please find the enclosed invitation - I hope you'll be able to attend. It would be an honour to have you stand with me on that day.
Best,
Kathryn

Important OTP question: which one tries and fails to make a rum cake and winds up drunk and covered in flour, and which one comes home to find them in this condition?
"Mmm dammit Maestro you...were s'ppsed to make sure I didn't drink all the rum. WHY IS THE RUM ALWAYS GONE?"
Kathryn draped herself across the counter, one hand clutching the far edge and the other wrapped around the empty rum bottle. "Also remind me to call Mr. Paris and tell him about his dumb movies. Oh well. At least that one guy is kind of attractive I guess."
"Do I need to be worried? Are you talking about that pirate captain again? I thought we decided he wasn't your type - something about too much hair."
Jumping upright, Kathryn promptly fell into the doctor's arms and dropped the bottle behind her, trying to let it go unnoticed. "Oh h'llo Ma'am Doctor. You look extra beautiful tonight. I mean always. But...like...extra pretty today. Yes. Good. Maestro and I tried to make cake but he left and um...we...we...were out of...um...flour?"
Beverly tried not to laugh at the sight of her very inebriated wife with flailing hand gestures. "I can't imagine you were out of rum, too?"
Kathryn dropped her head to Beverly's chest. "I don't know where it went I swear."
I found the ship by oparu's work on AO3 and I highly recommend starting there. (Coffee in Bed, Uncharted, and The Tales of Maestro's Family). I read them once and just kind of shrugged. I read them again and fell in love with them....and we all know how that turned out.
If that still doesn't quite cut it for you, have some of my other favourite works (Playing Hooky, Yes Admiral, and Topics in Practical Aerodynamics).
Finally, katiexbev is the tag I've seen used most commonly here, and probably good to glance through.
What if Dr. Crusher was on board Voyager? This is a reworking of the series to include our favourite TNG doctor, much to Kathryn's delight.
Soooo I finally got around to writing this over the weekend. As usual, it's not that great, but hey - here we get Beverly coming back with Chakotay and Harry to rewrite history.
Janeway owns the tattoo shop. Beverly takes care of the flowers. The two meet because Tuvok drags Kathryn with him to look at the orchids and Kathryn goes looking for a distraction.
and ends up spending the whole time hiding behind flowers, oogling the flower lady while she helps Tuvok.
Bev sees her and grins, walks right up, and asks her out for coffee.
Kathryn relaxed in Beverly's lap as they lay beneath a tree, the sun setting over the field. Kathryn was wrapped up in her PADD when she felt a hand gently brush a lock of hair off her cheek. "The sunset is beautiful, Kathryn. You've worked enough, enjoy it with me." "Mm, I didn't realize how late it was already." Kathryn took in the sight of the beautiful blue and purple sky. She reached for Beverly's hand but was jolted back to reality, instead pressing her lips against Beverly's gravestone.
