I have to say though, as much as I liked seeing Orym and Ashton talk again the fact that a large part of the conversation boiled down to not spending too long having emotions because there's shit to do has me concerned.

(it could also mostly be a reminder to not wallow, which is important, but at the same time... these two don't necessarily inspire confidence when it comes to handling emotions in a healthy manner)

While I'd love to see more of Kingsley I'm honestly okay with him probably sitting out most of the live show, this purple tiefling has died too many times already and no need to risk adding to that.

I'm having fun imagining a hypothetical Mighty Nein animated series, and there's one visual I keep thinking about.

Molly has just died at the end of the last episode. The credits play. Things move into the next episode, a cold open, and it’s an unfamiliar setting to the audience. There’s trees, and a spring, and gravestones, but things are unsettled. The lighting is strange, the music eerie. Butterflies flutter through the air, purple wings with red eye spots, before settling down on the gravestones, nine butterflies in total. Peaceful. For a moment.

But then there’s eyes, opening everywhere, the spring, the trees, the sky, it’s inescapable. Discordant music builds louder, the picture gets more and more unstable, and then the eyes all turn to the camera at once, staring directly at it.

Cut to someone gasping awake. Defining features are hidden, the individual only shown in silhouette as they sit up, looking out a window and moonlight showing the outline of cascading hair and soft ears.

Cue the intro music of the episode.

It fucks me up a little knowing that on a doylistic level, if Molly hadn’t died when and where he did Caduceus literally wouldn’t exist.

Cad wasn’t a back up character that Tal had in mind beforehand, like Molly was for Percy, he was something feverishly thought up over the course of three days and partially built for that scenario (such as the Blooming Grove being based out of the Savalir Wood), so even if Molly had died later the circumstances behind Cad’s creation were so specific that it’s completely possible it would have just been an entirely different character. Caduceus is such a key member of The Mighty Nein in my mind and the fact that it would have been so easy for him to just... never have existed? Hi my brain is breaking.

I definitely consider Molly/Kingsley and Essek to be full members of the M9 but it can still be disheartening at times on how much of a coin flip it is on if they're going to be included in group merchandise or not.

Current internal debate on the M9 show - wanting Molly to be around the whole first season and still alive when it ends so the new audience can have a good amount of time with him and not just being focused on his death... but also knowing there’s not as clear of a season one cut off point before the Iron Shepherds, and that part is where the stakes are really raised for the story (though I still kind of want the season one finale cliff hanger instead to be Yasha, Jester, and Fjord getting kidnapped).

With Taliesin confirming that Caduceus would come along for the next one shot I’m honestly kind of glad that Kingsley got the chance to go “first” - not only did he get the chance for more screen time, but it also really helped reaffirm his spot among the Mighty Nein, especially with helping wrap up something so major from the main campaign.

Even if he’s off doing his own thing for the next one shot, or it’s a toss up between him and Cad for anything after that, knowing that he’s already established with his own adventure still helps drive home that he’s a full member of the Mighty Nein and that he always has a home with them.
