Katnuts -- The Hogwarts Years
[for @cullenwrites]
"Can I sit here?” the young boy asked her, the Hat’s cry of “Hufflepuff” still ringing in his ears.
“Don’t be silly; it’s just a broomstick, Jonas, not a dragon.”
She was greatly displeased to suddenly find him much taller than her when they met on the platform after the summer.
“This was your idea,” he reminded her as she hid behind him, quaking in front of the Shrieking Shack.
“Stop Summoning all of my things away, Kitty!” he growled, looking frazzled over a Potions essay.
Jonas perfected Silencing Charms first in their class, much to the annoyance of Kitty, who could only sulk in silence until rescued.
The house elf tucked blankets around the pair of students asleep on their O.W.L.s notes.
“You can hardly tell the eyebrow’s gone at all,” Kitty promised, but grinned as she brushed his bangs over his forehead after their Apparition lesson.
“Ask her what?” Jonas said with confusion, while his friends shook their heads over Butterbeers.
“They’re so short,” Kitty whispered, leaning to see the troop of new students, then elbowed Jonas in the side as he sniggered.
Their seventh set of Christmas gifts were delivered with a newfound awkwardness, enough that Kitty missed her friends’ significant glances.
“It doesn’t taste quite the same, does it?” he said, pushing his last Hogwarts feast around his platter, not looking up at her.
The trip to London was an affair subdued by dire headlines and impending goodbyes.
