Today we are super excited to welcome Kat Rosenfield to the Penguin Teen Author Spotlight! You already know and love her from Amelia Anne Is Dead and Gone, so you've probably guessed that her latest novel, Inland, is going to be one of the creepiest, most compelling, and overall best books you read this year. The best part? You don’t have to wait too long to start. Inland will be in stores on June 12, only a couple days away!
Need more cat/Kat pictures? Follow her on Instagram.
Who’s your favorite author, living or dead? I could never choose just one, but Stephen King will always have a special place in my heart. A place that is dark, and scary, and full of spiders.
What’s your favorite thing about your book? The way it ends. I'm the one who came up with it, and it still freaks me out.
If you could spend one year on a deserted island with one character from literature, who would you choose? The hyperintelligent golden retriever from WATCHERS by Dean Koontz.
Where do you write? In a variety of locations, but always underneath this cat.
Who is your favorite hero or heroine of history? Dorothy Parker, although I'm glad I can't ever actually meet her, because she'd probably have something devastating to say about my haircut.
Do you tweet? What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever tweeted? Most recently, probably a series of uncomfortable questions about whether or not Moaning Myrtle was actually a sexual predator. (I don't know if it's funny, but a respected colleague did tell me that I'd ruined the movie forever!)
What is your favorite season? Right now, summer, because after six months of the polar vortex I was honestly beginning to think I would never see it again.
If you could teleport anywhere in the known universe right now, where would you go? Into Christopher Walken's closet. I just have this feeling that there's probably something crazy hidden in there.
Do you have any writing rituals? It's not a ritual, exactly, but I often write to a background soundtrack of bad teen horror movies.
What is your idea of earthly happiness? Taking a three-hour nap underneath a giant pile of live chinchillas.
What is the best concert you’ve ever been to? The one where David Bowie unexpectedly ran out onstage wearing the world's most amazing hat. (Arcade Fire, Central Park, Summer 2006.)
What are you currently working on? I'm a reporter for MTV News, so I'm actually writing an article about "The Fault in Our Stars" movie as we speak (and thanks a lot, John Green, for ripping out the hearts of the entire world and drowning them in a sea of tears. YOU'RE A MONSTER AND YOU SHOULD BE IN JAIL.) But! I am at work on a new novel, and if all goes well, it will be romantic and funny and sexy and very different from my last two books.
