How do you think spark reacted to the whole tree thing with Ianite?
Hmm, it’d really depend on the timeline of when Ianite got eyes for the tree.
So based on what we know, it would be later in their relationship after they’d already had kids, but just before the alt squad went over to the S1 world. There’s a lot of ways we could take this!
If we follow the the Fire of Katsir, Ianite had not only taken a lot of interest in this tree but lived in Katsir for some time before taking her year long nap in the Tree.
So on top of being interested in a tree while having been married, she stayed with said tree for a year whilst being married.
Did Spark ever ask about her? Did he ever look for her? Surely you would find it weird that your wife was missing for so long. Hell, even a month into her being aware you’d think he’d start asking questions.
Sure, Ianite was a goddess who had responsibilities, but she was asleep for a whole year!
And not only did she have a husband, she had kids, and grandkids!
My thoughts on how Spark took this go mostly three ways:
He was fine with it: Ianite was a goddess that lived long before him and would live long after him. To add on to that, she also had duties and powers that were far above his own. He could have expected Ianite to have a more flighty devotion to their marriage, or was simply content as long as she didn’t hook up with another human being.
He was neutral/ only mildly upset by it: Yeah, he got cheated on, but at least it wasn’t with an actual person? Or at least, that’d be one way to justify it. He may not have thought of her interesting relationship with the Tree as something that even qualified as cheating and was more upset about her just chilling with it for an entire year, shirking every other aspect of life. Who’s to say?
He was genuinely upset about it: A whole year?? With a tree??? Plus some??? Then tack on the strange relationship she had with the Tree, which was clearly sentient, which just adds salt to the wound. Oh, then consider the fact that Ianite, in a fit of rage, attacked the Tree and split it apart and caused it to go up in flames? Which then spread around the town of Katsir killing nearly everyone?
That’s a lot to take in. He’d have the chance to be disappointed in his wife from three separate angles there.
But then he got sent to the other world and Ianite went to sleep, and they didn’t face their issues.
That’s my take on all of it! I personally think Spark would be in the “what the fuck” category myself, but there’s no real way to know.
Though, if you’d like an angst consideration of the aftermath, check under the cut.
