A clown, frog, and child walk into a circus
★ Ribbit makes it clear that no matter what happens, no matter who you become, you'll always be her little buddy. She even pinky-swore. After getting disowned by her parents, she's determined to support you unconditionally.
★ Instead of going back to your own room, you usually end up hanging out with her instead. If she's busy Ragatha fills in. But there's nothing quite like laying down on her floor, looking up at the projected stars and rummaging through her secret stash of snacks.
★ Like he did with Ragatha, Jax told you to never mention her name again. Obviously you didn't listen. Now he hates how often you talk about her. Even after she's long gone.
★ Children tend to lack filters. Kaufmo loves this about you. Think twice? Hell, you probably don't think at all. Saying some of the most unhinged shit he's ever heard. He used to live in an apartment with thin walls, so that's really saying something!
★ You argued with the sun. Knowing full-well what she's like. Pointing a finger towards the sky and asking, "If the moon is out during the day why are you even here?" That particular conversation lasted about an hour.
★ While the clown was busy going insane, you slid drawings under his door. Just because. Art made with only the finest crayons featuring you and him. They ended up on his wall with all the other scribbles. Standing out against the mess.

Pomni
• Pomni is a very forward person, she still hesitates but it doesn’t take much for her to speak her mind. If something’s ever bothering you or her or if there’s anything she wants to talk about she’ll speak her mind! — This also leads me to believe that she’d be the most likely to ask you out first (or at least initiate something) out of the whole cast
• Shes very easy to connect with too, always happy to brighten the mood while also being realistic in more serious moments
• Shes very understanding as well, and will always try to see things for your perspective and change small things to fit your taste more
• Pomni’s love language is words of affirmation, she’ll encourage you to follow your hopes and dreams and will always be happy to support you
• If you’re ever upset she’d be pretty understanding, giving you space if needed. But she may push more to talk if she feels guilt about why you’re upset or is worried about you potentially abstracting
Jax
(I have a love-hate relationship with this guy/girl)
• You’d definitely have to be the one to initiate ANY sort of genuine/positive affection. It’ll take you a long time to get past his mean exterior but after time he can’t help but question your persistence. Even once you too become a couple he’ll always wonder, why him? He’s built up his whole personality on being an asshole, who would want to date someone like him? (A simp, aka you 🫵)
• In public he wouldn’t act much different, he’d rarely bring up your relationship himself and whenever he does speak about it he usually speaks of your relationship as if he doesn’t take it seriously, like he’s only with you for the fun of it
• But in private he’s a lot more personal and quiet, dont get me wrong he’ll still drop a few jokes if he wants to lighten the mood or if he starts feeling sensitive. Most of your real relationship happens behind the scenes, more calm & alone moments is where you both really connect
• His love language is quality time + acts of service, quality time because of those quiet moments where you see the real Jax/the Jax you fell in love with, where he’ll listen to you and will offer his opinion on your thoughts. And acts of service because out of everyone he’ll listen to you, you tell him to stop picking on Gangle? Fine, he was getting bored anyway. Want him to start taking the adventure seriously? Well it helps the time go by faster anyway
Ragatha
• Pre-relationship you guys would probably be really close, this time is most likely when Ragatha would realise she has a crush on you (Either that or its a love at first sight scenario) Shes pretty insecure and is a big people pleaser and she wouldn’t want to ruin the friendship you guys have by asking you out, so if you want to get together you’ll probably have to take the lead at the start
• Once you’re dating shes always checking up on you, making sure you’re doing okay with the current adventure and just making sure you’re holding up okay in general. She’s already lost so many people to abstraction she couldn’t cope with losing the one person who understands her (Well maybe Kinger too-)
• You’ll have to reassure her that you’re happy with her and the relationships is helping you a lot more. She’d be the type to really appreciate your honesty as well so you comforting her and communicating with her will mean the world to her
• You two usually hang out after an adventure in one of you guys rooms, there she’ll vent her frustrations about Jax, explain her worries for Pomni, etc. From time to time she’ll talk about her real life too, sometimes its happy stuff! Like her horses that she loves and her farm, other stuff not as happy, like her mother and her distaste for her real estate job
• Ragatha’s love language is words of affirmation, like I said before she’s always there to check up on you and is more than happy to let you vent to her. In fact that actually calms her knowing that you’re not keeping your emotions bottled up :)
Gangle
• Gangle is very shy and timid (no thanks to Jax) but is very sweet once you get to know her! At first she’s obviously a bit wary of you but quickly starts getting comfortable with you and starts to hang out with you more. I feel like it would take awhile but she would eventually work up the courage to ask you out
• In a relationship Gangle is pretty silent but still offers support, she’ll always be by your side silently offering comfort. She’ll probably take your hand in more serious moments as a way to calm both you and herself down.
• She isn’t the biggest fan of pda (other than simple things like hand-holding) not because of you, she just gets embarrassed easily. But in private when nobodies around/in her or your’s room she tends to speak her mind a lot more, usually about more happy things. She doesn’t like being around many people much due to her shyness so being alone or being with someone she trusts is kinda like her sacred time, she only wants to focus on happy things during that time
• But from time to time she’ll vent to you, usually about Jax. But sometimes more personal frustrations, like is she doing enough? Do you really believe she’ll be able to stay in the circus without abstracting?
• Gangle’s love language is gift-giving, specifically drawings. As you know Gangle loves to draw, and as her partner you’ll obviously support her hobby. She’ll take note of random things you like and draw them. She’s grateful for someone she’s so close to is interested in a hobby she doesn’t speak of much. Sometimes she’ll secretly doodle you in a hidden sketchbook but will never show you, like I said she does a lot of silent affection 🤭
Zooble
• Zooble can seem blunt on the surface but it doesn’t take much to see that they’re actually a very kind person, their bluntness stems from them wanting to be realistic with the situation they’re in. What draws them to you is your similar coping mechanism, just dont take things too seriously and try your best. It would take Zooble awhile to realise they have feelings for you (Not nearly as long as Jax though) but once they accept their own feelings it doesn’t take them long to ask you out. Its not as if they waited to build confidence they were just waiting for the right moment which admittedly is very sweet ^-^
• If I were to describe Zooble in a relationship with one word it would be loyalty. Whenever they’d try to skip Caine’s adventures most of the time they’ll bring you to skip with them if you like.
• Whenever theres an occasion where they’re on an adventure against their will you’ll definitely be able to tell that they’re more irritated and less willing to put up with Jax than usual but all it takes is a few attempts from you to cheer them up to get them to calm down and try to make the best of it.
• When alone Zooble would 100% be the BEST advice giver, of course they’d try to voice their words a bit lighter if you needed help for something distressing but would still be realistic and offer what they think is best to do while putting a hand (or claw? idk 😭) on your shoulder to provide any needed comfort
• They’d occasionally bring up their dysphoria to you if they were worried for themselves and realised it wasn’t healthy to keep absolutely everything bottled up, plus they recognise that in a relationship they’ll have to open up as well. The most they’ll tell you about their dysphoria is random and small tidbits, not wanting to load a lot onto you. Usually something like “it feels like ill never be happy with myself” while not going into much detail, but slowly with your help they’ll start to feel at least a little better about themselves :)
• Zooble’s love language is acts of service + gift giving, Zooble will always be around if you ever need a helping hand or if you want to get away from Caine (Proud Zooble moment there) or any of the other cast members, they got you. Zooble will also gladly lend you one of their spare parts in their room if you ever need a random tool, it also helps them mentally knowing they’re being useful
Kinger
• I feel like if you two were in a relationship it wouldn’t be really outwardly stated, but you can tell you’re closer to him compared to the rest of the cast. Even if at times you yourself can’t understand him you know that he cares for you subconsciously in a way thats more than just friends
• You’d notice small yet random things he does with you that he doesn’t do with anyone else, like inviting you into his pillow-fort or talking to you more (Even if you can barely make out the context of your conversations) Usually your conversations start out as something relatively normal but the topic changes so quickly with him it immediately turns more into the class Kinger shenanigans
• You might not understand exactly what he’s saying but strangely he gives such comforting advice that you cant tell if he’s doing it on purpose or not. Like if Caine is ever bothering you he might sound crazy but he’ll say something like “Well you can’t expect an ai to make a perfect chocolate cake” which sounds odd but subtly remind you that Caines just an ai, your actions probably confuse him just as much as his confuse you!
• Kinger’s love language is 100% quality time (maybe words of affirmation too but im not as sure) he might not remember or know everything about you, but you can tell he cares, not true his words but his subtle actions like I mentioned before. Maybe one day you can understand it, but for now you’re in the dark a bit (Get it?)
Caine
• He would be pretty friendly with you right off the bat in his normal Caine fashion. He would only start to get more attached to you if you immediately reciprocated his affection since literally none of the cast does. He is an ai so he would struggle to tell the difference between platonic affection and romantic affection so if you wanted to ask him out you would have to spell it out for him, no matter how much flirting you do he’ll never pick up on your hints. Once you two are in a relationship you’d probably have to explain what that is too
• It wouldn’t be super obvious but he’d definitely give you special treatment, he’ll always go to you first if you have a suggestion for an adventure or if he wanted to do an adventure specifically for you.
• If something were ever to upset you he would get rid of it with a snap of his fingers, “If you aren’t enjoying yourself then the rest of of the cast mustn’t be either” or at least thats what he tells himself. He doesn’t realise how much of an effect you have on him. Something “upsetting” you can really mean a lot of things, a lot of the time its just something you paid no mind to. Not for any bad reason you just assumed it wasn’t anything that would take your attention. Sometimes you could walk by an npc in an adventure, not doing anything with it and Caine would shout a quick “Oh deary me-!” and snap the npc out of existence (Sorry buddy)
• Caine’s love language is words of affirmation and gift giving, he’ll always compliment you for the simplest things, heck you could pick up a fork and he would say the way you hold it changed his life. And if theres a specific thing you’d like, whether an adventure or a random item he’ll be more than happy to help you “Its my pleasure!” he’d say, which for him it really is. Knowing that he’s fulfilling his duty as an ai is accomplishing for him
Kaufmo
• Kaufmo is very easy to get along with, definitely the chillest character in all of Tadc. He also seems quick to help a new member which would make you make you two pretty close pretty quickly. I feel like he would develop feelings quickly but would take a really long time to confess, he’d definitely get embarrassed easily. So you would probably ask him out in the meantime even though at that point its probably been on his mind for a long time
• If an adventure ever required a team of two you’d definitely be his first choice, so don’t break his heart and go with him. He’d definitely get slightly insecure and jealous at times, not hugely but back then it seems everyone in the circus was pretty close so its natural for him to feel a bit jealous, although the feeling usually leaves quickly and if not Kaufmo is a pretty sound guy so he’ll talk to you about it
• If you were ever upset or you two got in a fight he would definitely distance himself for awhile unless he was worried about your potential abstraction or if you reached out to him yourself. He knows its important to give you some alone time but would still frequently check up on you without you seeing
• Kaufmo’s love language is acts of service, he’ll always be there if you need to talk and he’ll always make time for you. And while he loves having fun with anyone he especially loves having a fun time with you + loves making happy memories with you!!
Ribbit
• Similar to Kaufmo Ribbit seems to be pretty straightforward when helping new members in the circus, although I feel she would give more space at the start than Kaufmo. Not as in a way from distancing herself though, if you start talking to her she’ll be happy to have a conversation with you. She would probably develop a crush on someone quickly enough (not as quick as Kaufmo) and she would definitely leave A LOT of hints, if you picked up on those hints and reciprocated them then she’d ask you out. Very smart girl
• Ribbit would do a lot of pda (if you were comfortable with it of course) she loves to show you off and loves showing you how much she appreciates you. In my opinion shes the greenest flag in the circus, always trying to put a smile on your face in a lot of different ways but can tell if its not the time and can comfort you in a more appropriate way for the moment
• If you two were ever in a fight she’d leave you alone for a crisp 5 minutes before trying to talk to you again, she wouldn’t immediately bring up your fight but she’d want to get on speaking terms with you first so you’re less likely to start a second argument
• Ribbit’s love language is words of affirmation, its her favourite way to display her affection towards you and she absolutely adores talking to you in her room after adventures. Usually there you’d speak about all the funny parts of the adventure you two had a few moments ago, laughing and having fun together. She’d also be happy for you to open up to her about anything at all, and she’ll feel comfortable to speak about her parents/home life to you during those times as well. But she’ll never push your boundaries!

Kaufmo x Introvert Reader: Quiet Corner
The first few days after arriving in the circus were overwhelming, and not because anyone was particularly mean, but just... loud. Everything was loud.
The colors, the endless hallways, the adventures Caine dragged everyone into. Even the people themselves seemed larger than life. They bounced from conversation to conversation with an ease that made your head spin into an ache. You just couldn't keep up with all of the whacky whimsy of the circus, so instead, you stayed quiet.
At breakfast, you sat at the far end of the table staring daggers into your binary code meal and barely so much as glancing anywhere but the table. During adventures, you lingered at the back of the group, giving paranoid glances around the map with each passing moment, that unearthed panic forming in the back of your mind with every NPC you saw. When everyone gathered in the common room to play games or talk, you usually slipped away before anyone could stop you, unable to fathom how people TRAPPED in this place could be so calm and casual about the torment that belied the "fun and quirky" adventures Caine threw you all into.
It wasn't that you disliked them, truly it wasn't, but you just didn't know how to fit in, after all, they'd all been here far longer than you. They already had friendships, inside jokes, routines. They were all akin to a family, and you felt like an extra piece from a puzzle that had already been completed, unneeded and discardable at a momentary whim.
So you kept to yourself. And apparently someone had noticed.
"...You know, most people don't spend this much time hiding." Kaufmo's voice softly peered around the corner of your hiding place, seeing you balled up in a darker and more lonely corner behind the Main Area couch, you nearly jumped out of your skin hearing him suddenly speaking, looking up from the corner of the lounge where you'd been reading, you found Kaufmo leaning upside down over the back of the couch. How long had he been there?
"...Hi." You muttered out, quiet and embarrassed, still reeling slightly from the scare he gave you a moment prior.
"Hi!" he chirped, face lighting up when you actually responded for once. Sitting in silence for a long few moments, you blinked, and He blinked back, continuing hanging upside down.
"..."
"..."
"...What are you doing?" Your voice shook slightly as you looked over his face, not awkward, nor content, just neutral.
"Waiting." He replied, shrugging slightly from his position on the couch.
"For what?" You asked.
"For you to stop looking like a startled rabbit." He grinned, reaching a rubberhose arm over the back of the couch to boop your nose playfully yet softly, noting the lack of recoil, a small laugh escaping before you could stop it. Kaufmo immediately turned his body around to sit on his knees over the back of the couch, pointing at you excitedly.
"There it is!" He exclaimed with a bright grin, a giggle escaping him as well.
"What?" You asked, confusion in your voice as you raised a brow at him.
"A laugh!" He confirmed, playfully punching your shoulder while mentally priding himself that he was able to get you to laugh for the first time since you got to The Circus.
You groaned and hid your face in embarrassment, face turning slightly pink. He grinned in response, a proud look in his eyes.
"See? Progress." He noted, mind racing with other ways he might be able to slip a giggle from you, though despite yourself, another laugh slipped out before he even said anything further.
Kaufmo carefully climbed over the couch and sat beside you with a content sigh, but you had noticed, he wasn't too close, unlike the others who would be right up next to you or awkwardly far, Kaufmo understood the middle ground, and went at your pace. You appreciated it.
"You've been avoiding everybody." He points out, a little bit disappointed yet not angry or even remotely disunderstanding. You tensed, feeling as though something wrong was done and karma only waited til now to pay you back.
"I wasn't—" Kaufmo put a hand up to stop you before you could finish.
"You absolutely were." He raised a brow, giving you a knowing look as he continued,
"..."
"You skipped game night."
"..."
"You left before movie night."
"..."
"And yesterday during the adventure you spent twenty minutes pretending a rock was interesting." He listed off the evidence with a count of his fingers, fighting a smile at the last part.
"It was a very nice rock." You retorted, looking at the nearest pillar as though it was the most pretty thing on the planet, anything but looking at Kaufmo himself.
Kaufmo snorted at your retort, putting a hand on his face,
"You are impossible." His voice shook with held back laughter, resisting the urge to let it burst.
You looked down at your book, the familiar embarrassment returning. Maybe he'd gotten tired of your weird behavior. Maybe he—
"You know," Kaufmo said softly,
"Nobody's upset with you." He said with a sigh, leaning back against the couch. Your head lifted from the words of your book, the letters becoming faded lines as you took in what he said.
"What?" You whispered, wondering if maybe you misheard him and your brain was getting your hopes up.
"You always look worried." His smile had become gentler, less clownish, more sincere, as he spoke.
"I figured maybe you thought everyone was judging you or something." He looked off to the side, a wave of relatability coating over both of you, you stared, because unfortunately that was exactly what you'd been thinking.
Kaufmo glanced back at your expression, a knowing smile forming as he pointed dramatically at you with an "Aha!"
"I didn't even say anything." You replied flatly, your brow raising.
"You didn't have to." He shrugged.
You groaned again, as He laughed softly. Then the room became quiet, not uncomfortable, but calm. Eventually Kaufmo leaned back.
"When I first got here, I thought everybody hated me." He rubbed his arm as he spoke, feeling suddenly vulnerable.
You blinked.
"You?" Your eyes widened slightly, someone so extravagant and eccentric, so loud and amusing, and he thought the others hated him? It didn't add up in your head.
"Yep." He replied, gripping his arm slightly tighter as he half-shrugged.
"But you're..." You gestured vaguely to his entire self,
"Kaufmo."
He burst out laughing.
"I don't know if that's a compliment or..." He jokingly trailed off, feeling you playfully reach over and shove his shoulder with a grunt.
"You know what I mean." You side-eyed him.
He smiled, not the normal clown smile, but a genuine light and bright smile.
"I do." His gaze drifted toward the comically large skylight windows above you two.
"Everyone already knew each other better than I did. I kept trying to make jokes because I thought if I stopped being funny, nobody would want me around." His soft and vulnerable words surprised you, Kaufmo was usually the most energetic person in the room, so it was strange imagining someone like him feeling lonely.
"So..." he continued, "I figured maybe you're dealing with something similar." Hearing the assumption, you hesitated, breath hitching a bit as you looked to the floor, then finally nodded.
"A little." You admitted, feeling a little less embarrassed this time.
"A little?" He repeated with a soft-spoken disbelief.
"Maybe a lot." You rolled your eyes at your own admittance, hearing him hum knowingly, and then the silence returned, and this time you didn't feel pressured to fill it. Kaufmo seemed perfectly content just sitting there.
After a minute, he suddenly sat upright.
"I have an idea." He snapped his fingers together idealistically, that sentence immediately filling you with concern.
"What kind of idea?" You asked hesitantly.
"The best kind." He grinned mischievously down at you.
"That's not reassuring." You scooted away from him slightly.
"Friendship." He stated bluntly, turning himself to face you, you just stared at Him.
"Friendship?" You repeated with a profound questioning look on your face.
"Yep." His voice lit up, grin widening.
"You don't have to talk to everybody." He placed a hand on your shoulder to attempt to calm your shock.
"I don't?" You tilt your head.
"Nope." He confirms, giving your shoulder a small squeeze before pulling away.
"You can just talk to me." He smiled toothily and cartoonishly, pointing at himself with his thumb, making your heart skip a beat unexpectedly. Kaufmo said it so casually, as though it was the most obvious thing in the world without expectations, without pressure, it was just an offer. A genuine one.
"...Why?" You whispered, voice shaking again.
For the first time, Kaufmo looked confused.
"Because I want to be your friend?" He tilted his head, not understanding the question fully but at least understanding some of the hesitance to a degree, the answer came so naturally that it made your chest ache.
"Oh." Was all you could muster, looking away. He tilted his head in response.
"Is that okay?" He asked, a hand to his chest as he reached over to hover his hand over your back, not touching, but a comforting hovering presence there if you need it, and you found yourself smiling, a real smile, Not one forced out of politeness.
"Yeah." You nodded. Kaufmo immediately threw both arms into the air.
"YES!" He cheered, swinging an arm over your shoulder, the cheer causing several people across the room to look over. You buried your face in your hands with a groan and a quick-growing red face.
"Why are you like this?" You drawled out,
"Because we're friends now." He giggled, patting your shoulder.
"I don't think that's how friendship works." You corrected, nudging his ribs.
"It absolutely is." He smugly grinned down at you, who shoved him off of yourself playfully, watching him fall back and catch himself with his hands.
"No." You uttered bluntly.
"Too late." Kaufmo deflected.
You laughed, and Kaufmo looked ridiculously pleased with himself, a huge comical grin tracing over his eccentric features.
From then on, things became easier, but nothing was instant. You still stayed quiet as a mouse save for peeps of shock or yelps of fear, you still preferred the back of the group during adventures as you were too afraid of the digital pain or digital creatures you've encountered, you still needed time alone to process the 1 and 0 hell you were thrusted into.
But now, there was usually a clown-shaped shadow nearby, someone who sat beside you without demanding conversation and could bask in the silence of the moment with comfort and respect, someone who waved excitedly whenever he spotted you and beckoned you over to the group with a soft call, someone who somehow convinced you to join activities without making them feel exhausting or overwhelming.
Slowly, the circus became a little less frightening, every time you caught Kaufmo smiling at you from across a room, you couldn't help smiling back. Each laugh he let slip from Ribbit or Spike's jokes, you laughed with him like it was a humorous infection. After all, sometimes all it took was one person deciding you were worth getting to know, and Kaufmo had decided that from the very beginning. He learned that you were worth his time, worth the effort, and that kept him going.
Kaufmo as Reader's older brother figure headcanons?? Like Reader enters the circus and was the youngest there before Jax came and they had an older chill brother like Kaufy before + felt homesick.

Kaufmo was a little surprised to see someone as young as you enter the circus, then again, children are curious, While everyone was talking and panicking about what was happening, You were surprisingly stable,
You scoot closer to Kaufmo, He doesn’t fight it, He just lets you.
After getting to know him— the circus notices your comfortable around him.
You sit next to Kaufmo during ANY adventure, and if you feel upset he tries telling jokes (the jokes are unfunny, but you laugh to make him feel good.)
Genuinely speaking, Kaufmo is a pretty chill guy and actually is happy to have someone with him, It wasn’t long before both of you had abstracted, but it was fun while it lasted.
Kaufmo never really tries to pull pranks on you, but sometimes you just encourage him to so he isn’t acting like a wussy to the others.
Kaufmo genuinely wants the best for you, and tries blocking off most of the shenanigans the other circus members do so you don’t get “corrupted.”
and the circus moves on.

For one , he wasn’t expecting to have time to make these but when you’re stuck in digital purgatory . It’s possible . He guessed that Caine wasn’t almost that bad when he gave him materials when he asked for it .
Almost .
It…gives him something to do when he has art block and couldn’t draw anything . Something his hands could be busy with and not think much . Dissociate , if you will .
And then there is you .
Someone that got curious about him and hung out with instead of anyone else . Well , Kinger isn’t really much of an option when he loses Queenie . And Ragatha…he’s not exactly fond of her . He warned Gangle about it and she said she’ll keep it in mind . Not to mention Jax , fuck that asshole . He’ll always remember what he did that one dreaded day .
“Can you teach me ?” He remembered you asking one day when he managed to make a balloon animal in a few seconds by skill before shrugging and saying ‘Why not .’
He has so much time and there comes the question when he thinks about it .
‘Why me ?’ Why hang out with him ? Gangle’s a better option and she needed more friend options so why is he first choice ? Choice…was there even a choice for anybody when you got stuck in this circus ?
His train of thought gets interrupted when he hears you struggling to blow the balloon . Knowing the difficulty when you’re new and especially when it comes to certain balloon brands , he decided to offer to blow it up for you .
He barely caught your blush as he wiped out the small accumulated saliva and went to blow , focusing to finish and make the balloon expand to its full potential . Now the basics…maybe a poodle or a simple sword could suffice .
Thank goodness you were a good student , managing to catch on when he teaches and absorb the knowledge quickly . Why , he even teases you were almost as good at him before you nervously deny it .
Finishing with the basics , he decided maybe something a little complicated could be done . Why , with him as a great teacher-
Oh , you’re struggling a little .
He went behind you , holding your hands to properly guide you better . His breath exhaled a little near your neck as your hands started to shake in front of him .
“We could stop if it’s too hard ?” He asked before you quickly denied it . His neck is hurting a bit in this position so he decided-
“Sit on my lap .”
“What ?!”
He stammered a little as he quickly exclaimed . “It’s hard guiding you behind the couch and it’s gonna take a while to finish . If you insist on wanting to finish…” He trailed off , waiting on your answer before you agreed .
He sighed in relief , thinking for a second he makes things awkward when he sits down . You seem hesitate for a little and as he was about to assure you-
You immediately sat on his lap quickly before he could finish .
“...is this still about balloon animals?” He asked quietly as he was not expecting you to sit facing him .
Continuation of the previous parts :D, I literally forgot one character that is Kaufmo. Even though he's not in the pilot, the poor guy deserves love! I know this is a short chapter but Kaufmo kinda deserves one tbh. Too many Jax x readers around lol.

Warning : slight angst
There's nothing much to do around the circus as of late, Caine had been busy with his work/project and the others are doing their own things or minding their own business.
You're in Gangle's room and watch her draw characters from anime, even though she couldn't remember much about the characters or how they used to look like. Every time she draws, she feels that she is getting the characters so right!
"Look, here (Y/o/n)!" Gangle smiles as she holds up her finished drawing of an animal with a large red hat.
"A raccoon?" you questioned tilting your head to the side. "No, silly! It's a reindeer! A doctor too!" Gangle said. "Hehehe~ I'm just messing with ya, Ribbons!" you said.
"Hey, look what I've drawn!" you said. Holding up a badly drawn of yourself with Gangle with the word 'Weeb Besties' on top with hearts all over. Gangle gasps and takes the paper from you, "I'm going to pin it on my wall!" she said, hugging the drawing. She walks over to her board and pins it on the large board filled with all kinds of arts she had done.
"(Y/o/n), let's play mario—" before Gangle could finish, both of you were teleported to the stage.
Turns out, there were new people on the stage.
Kaufmo
A clown?! Gasps! A stage buddy! Yippe :D
Kaufmo, a name that was given to the newcomer by Caine. At first, the poor guy was in a panic mess, well who wouldn't when you enter a whole different dimension in an instant.
"What—wh—where am I?! Why can't I get this thing off?????!!!" Kaufmo shrieks as he begin pulling on his face, Jax snorts "Try pulling harder, maybe you could rip—" you instantly slaps your hand on the rabbits's mouth to shut him up.
LICK— "Waa! Eew! Gross!" you cringe when Jax licks your palm as the purple rabbit gives you a smug grin.
Caine had taken Kaufmo on an instant tour around the place.
The clown didn't take it too well.
The guy was in a nervous wreck and running around the tent to find an escape from the digital realm.
"Exit! Where's the exit!" he shrieked. Jax on the other hand kinda had enough with his screaming and left, leaving you and the others.
"Alright, let's calm down and take a deep breath" Ragatha said as she walked over to Kaufmo to calm him down.
Due to Ragatha's expertise at calming people, Kaufmo finally calms down.
Everyone introduced themselves to the clown and it was your turn, "Hello, there Kaufmo! My name is (Y/o/n) the robotic jester! Hey, wanna hear a joke?" you said with a grin.
Somehow both of you became partners in the circus!
You and Kaufmo would do tricks together and tell jokes to each other, even Kaufmo's jokes weren't the best ( most of his jokes were consists of dad jokes btw ). Being a good partner, you help him improve!
Like Kinger, Kaufmo sees you as a good friend. Like you do with Gangle, you protect him from Jax's pranks and mockeries.
But even when you try to get his mind off the exit, it won't stop him or change his mind. Kaufmo were glad that you wanted to help him but....
He really wants to go home.....
"(Y/o/n)....I'm thankful that you want to help me but...I miss home and...my family. I know they are waiting for me" Kaufmo said. with a deep frown on his face. You stare into his black beady eyes as you rub your arm and look away.
"Don't you miss yours, (Y/o/n)?" your eyes widen slightly at Kaufmo's question, "I wish I could be like you, ya know....Like don't worry about anything at all? All of your feelings are so genuine unlike the others, like you belong in this place....." Kaufmo said, fiddling with his gloves.
"Well, I— uh" you were cut off by a voice.
"Now, what's with all of these frowning I see?" a voice echoes, both of you look up to see the moon looking down at the two of you.
"Oh, w-we were just talking...." you said, rubbing the back of your neck "I-I I think I want to go back to my room, see you tomorrow I guess..." you said as you speed your way back to your room. On your way, you see Jax walking by and he sees you. He folds his arms behind him and extends his leg once you got close.
He trips you as you fall on the ground, but you were too deep in your thoughts to even bother about Jax tripping you.
A question mark appears on Jax's head as he watches you enter your designated room, slamming the door shut. Jax's grin left his lips, he never sees you acting like that before and it kinda bothers him to see you like that.
"Pft....they'll get over it" he snorts as he walks away but he still couldn't shake off the feelings.
Once you're in your room, you lock the door and lean on the wooden door before sliding down and sit on the floor. You cover your face with your hands and cry.....
Now that Kaufmo said it, "I u-understand how it felt...." you mumbled to yourself. Yes, you also miss your family.
Especially your beloved uncle, you couldn't remember what he look like anymore and every time you want to remember, it was all a blur in your mind.....
He was the only family you had left.....
You'd hope that he's doing alright....
You look up at a drawn picture of yourself (avatar form) and a man with a question mark on his face, both of you are holding hands.

❀ Ribbit’s very fond of you and your antics, she always loves talking with you because you two never have a boring conversation! She’s always happy to listen to you yap about “divine elegance” or whatever else is in your fancy brain. Even when she isn’t speaking to you she finds interest from just watching you from afar (in the least creepy way possible, like a quick glance and a chuckle to herself for a few seconds) Whether you’re chilling by yourself or speaking to the other cast members you’re always up to something that entertains her, even though she’ll never admit it despite how obvious her interest is.
❀ When you two got close and started becoming more protective of her/it became more obvious how protective you were she was taken aback at first. Her parents were never really there for her, and she trusts Kaufmo and Jax but definitely in more of a friendship way, so its all a new experience for her. She spends some time wondering what the strange feeling is whenever she thinks of your protectiveness but she eventually realises it was admiration (she always knew it was a good feeling anyway)
❀ Later on she thanks you for looking after her and how nice it is to feel appreciated, you respond with a classic “Well it is my duty—“ but she quickly pulls you into a hug before you can get another word out, in which you softly hug her back. After all it would be improper to not reciprocate such a kind display of affection!
❀ The first time you conjured a rose for her she was confused but still appreciative, she gently took it in her hands and asked how you could that. How could you create something out of thin air? — Hm? You assumed all the cast members could conjure something but just never showed it, once Ribbit confirmed your thoughts were wrong you became insistent to show her how and let her conjure something up herself. This inequality will not stand!
❀ It takes her a few weeks to get the hang of it but you were happy for her to take her time and be patient. One day after an adventure you were about to leave for your room but she quickly tapped your shoulder and asked to show you something. She brought you to the cafe where she conjured up a cute little pink bow that looks exactly like hers, she handed it to you while gently smiling “Here, give me a sec” She says while putting the bow onto the upper left part of your chest, as if it was a medal of honour. You two never told Caine or any of the other members you knew how to conjure, it became you guy’s little secret. Keeping secrets isn’t the most knightly or heroic thing to do but you were willing to make an exception, you promised Ribbit you’d keep it under wraps, along with your promise of your undying loyalty.

☆ Kaufmo absolutely ADORES being around you in any shape or form. He thinks you’re the funniest person in the circus, beside him of course! (Everyone was too nice to tell him his jokes aren’t that good) He’d try to team up with you on most if not all adventures that require teams, he loves how you see the world and the way you speak about things. He calls it your “fancy language”. Kaufmo hates being bored or anything boring which is why he enjoys speaking to you more than anyone else. Even with the simplest topics like how you slept or how your day was is interesting when you say it. Kaufmo always knows he’s about to have a good time when he sees you around
☆ He’s impressed by your chivalry too, although it isn’t as obvious with your personality he appreciates how kind you are deep down, i suppose thats a knight’s duty! Something he’ll even play along with your knightly personality as if he’s some damsel in distress for a laugh, whenever he does that you get slightly confused you won’t lie, but you’ll shrug it off saying its apart if his character.
☆ The first time you were openly protective of him was probably the best day of his life. Deep, DEEP, down Kaufmo would be jumping around with joy like a schoolgirl who just got asked to prom by her crush. But Kaufmo wouldn’t wanna let that show, he’d feel embarrassed! So he plays it off as cool and as chill as he possibly can, and surprisingly he plays it off pretty well. Later that day whenever you two were alone together he’d thank you, but this thanks is different than the one he gave earlier. You can tell he’s touched by your act of kindness for him. To which you reply to his thanks with a “It’s my honour and duty to serve” Kaufmo then lets out a chuckle, boy is he fond of you.
☆ One day on a specific adventure you two got separated from the rest of the group, as if it was as natural to you as breathing you decided to clear the way and become the leader. Kaufmo asks why’d you do this all for him? He wonders whats so special about him that you’d feel the need to protect him so much. You respond by telling him you admire his joyful personality and wish to achieve his level of whimsy someday. Kaufmo smiles as then you turn around to him and swear your loyalty to him from this day onward
☆ The first time you conjured something for him was a day you noticed he was feeling down. He’d still smile but you can tell its not the same happy smile he’d make usually. Once you conjured the rose and handed it to him he paused for a moment, when finally his classic smile comes back to his face. And you can tell this one is real. But he has to ask how you did that, you shrugged and admitted it just came to you one day. You were under the assumption that the whole cast had the ability to conjure. You made the offer to Kaufmo to teach him but he politely declined, “I think ill leave that up to you” he smiled. You decided to just leave the offer then, it wouldn’t be very kind of you to keep prying or asking when he already declined your offer.
☆ The next day you opened your bedroom door to find a small present left for you. It was wrapped with yellow wrapping paper and tied together by a slick red ribbon with a bow neatly done on the top. Inside was a note from Kaufmo “Every knight needs their trusty steed! — Kaufmo” he wrote, once you took a look into the box again you found a balloon animal of a horse. You proudly displayed it on your shelf and later spent some time with Kaufmo trying to pick a name for it.
Caine

✮ You and Caine match each other’s freak perfectly! Caine himself is pretty overdramatic so having someone who can match his vibes is perfect for him. He’ll try to be discreet about it but you’re his favourite out of the bunch. It isn’t uncommon for him to ask for your advice on an adventure, or sometimes he’ll ask about a more specific problem like how to help the cast move on from an abstraction. You only give your honest opinion and suggestions, phrasing them as kindly as possible if they’re not in Caine’s favour, although he’ll usually ignore those ones. You’re the one who recommended him adding the suggestion box too! Although personally you wouldn’t need it much due to your closeness with Caine, he’ll pretty much do any idea you have for an adventure (usually adding his own little twist though) But you thought its only fair if the other cast members had a chance to pitch their ideas too.
✮ To be honest there isn’t much of a reason for you to be protective of him besides your duty, he’s the leader of the circus he could do whatever he likes with a snap of his fingers. Usually when the other circus members are calling him out you’ll try to stand up for him but its the rest of the cast against you. So no matter how insistent you try to be it doesn’t end in your favour. But soon after you’ll find him in his office and offer your comfort to him, its the least you could after failing to serve as his shield. Your words quickly cheer him up and reassure him as his spark comes back. By the next day he’s back to normal and he’s sure the next adventure is bound to please them all this time!
✮ The day made an oath swear your loyalty to him wasn’t long after you entered the circus and met him, you expressed how you were glad there was someone in this strange new place that understood you. Caine wants to express his feelings too but he just doesn’t know how, he’s an ai after all, he doesn’t recognise his feelings as feelings! Can he even feel anything at all? You knew Caine was an ai but you decided the matter wasn’t important or could wait for another day, you didn’t know much about artificial intelligence anyway.. Human or not you view all kind beings as equal and you swore to protect him. Even in the grand scheme there wasn’t much you could do- what matters is determination.
✮ When you conjured a rose for Caine randomly it was safe to say he was shocked, his eyes practically bounced out of his head! (Or mouth? Idk 😭) But once you handed it over to him and he realised it was a gift he nearly melted on the spot. He blushed, he was used to you being there for him but you’ve never been this outward with your affection. “Fo-for me?” he asked just to be sure, once you confirmed that the gift was in fact, for him he completely forgot to question you conjuring stuff. All those thoughts were thrown out the window in a blink of the eye! If you knew you weren’t supposed to you’d stop conjuring, a knight breaking the rules? Absurd! Knights are supposed to ensure rules are being followed! But.. you were oblivious to the fact that no one else besides Caine had such an ability. But at the end of the day, you were more than happy to serve your purpose to the ringmaster, and thats all that matters.

☆ Before you got together i totally think Ribbit and Jax would constantly try to set you up together the second they realised there was some feelings between the two of. It was awkward at first but in the end its what got you two to make a move
☆ Kaufmo is a chill guy but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. He’s very attentive to your needs and will do pretty much anything you ask. Very much a ‘happy wife happy life’ type of man
☆ You, Kaufmo, Jax and Ribbit go down to the cafe frequently for hot chocolate, but sometimes you two will sneak off alone in secret. It started off as a bit of a joke before you started dating but it quickly turned into a tradition of its own between you too. He knows your exact hot chocolate order too, has it all memorised
☆ Speaking of memorised he’ll know practically everything about you, he loves to get to know people in general so imagine how he is with his own girlfriend! Your likes, you dislikes, you name it! If he’s ever speaking to somebody and they make a small mistake about you he’s quick to correct them (nicely) He has no issue pulling a “Erm actually 🤓” moment when it comes to you
☆ He wouldn’t push you for info about your real life unless he thought something was wrong for quite awhile, or if another member you were close with abstracted — He’d really just pry if he was concerned for your wellbeing
☆ But he himself wouldn’t open up naturally, whether about his life if just when he’s feeling down in general. Not that he objects to opening up to you at all you’d just have to be the one to initiate it, he’s happy to tell you what he remembers though! If there were any similarities between your humans lives like if you both worked for the same big company (even though it was probably hundred of miles apart) he’d say “Wow really? It must be a sign” — He heavily believes that if you met outside the circus and in the human world you would’ve started dating there as well, both of you ending up in the circus only sped up the process
☆ Kaufmo isn’t the type to get truly jealous easily, he trusts you more than anyone. He can’t imagine any version of you ever betraying his trust. One of the (many) things he loves about you is your loyalty. But just because it doesn’t happen often doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen at all.
☆ It all began when Jax and Ribbit started acting odd, one day after an adventure you and Kaufmo approached Ribbit’s room looking for her and Jax. Only for Jax to panic and run out in a hurry. Ever since that moment the two have been acting odd, with Jax constantly avoiding her all of a sudden. Kaufmo is always happy to lend an ear to any of his friends but he can still be oblivious at times, with this being a prime example. You didn’t get involved with what was going on with Jax and Ribbit since it wasn’t your business and it was clear neither were up to talking about it. But you noticed small things, how Jax would ignore Ribbit’s attempts at talking with him and how the used-to-be inseparable pair was now never seen together.
☆ The day Kaufmo’s jealousy began was at the start of an adventure that required teams of two, usually you go with Kaufmo by default and Jax with Ribbit but this time Jax approached you asking to them up, you looked at Jax and then Kaufmo and then back at Jax. “Maybe just this was since Jax and Ribbit still have issues..” you thought to yourself. You turned to Kaufmo “Maybe we’ll switch up the pairings for once? Is that alright dear?” Kaufmo didn’t seem too happy about it (especially since he didn’t have a clue what was going on with Jax and Ribbit) but he quickly put up a smile and turned to Ribbit’s direction. “Yeah sure, its always good to change it up sometimes”
☆ The adventure eventually finished and you approached Kaufmo asking how him and Ribbit got on (And secretly hoping Ribbit would’ve told him what’s going on 👀) But instead he asked to talk to you in private, so you both made your way to the cafe and placed your order and then he began talking. He told you how he wasn’t the happiest with Jax wanting to team up with you, he thought you guys teaming was your thing and although he had fun with Ribbit he would’ve preferred teaming up with you :( You immediately apologise and explain why you accepted Jax’s offer to team up and with everything you’ve noticed between him and Ribbit. You also thank him for deciding to speak to you instead of keeping a grudge or acting like nothing bothered him. Kaufmo understood and you could visibly see him lighten up again from relief. You giggled softly as you stood up and have him a kiss on the cheek. You turn around on your way out giggling to yourself again as you see his face, as red as a tomato ^-^
