((Kavuta and Vaesa have gotten a new design, and a new and improved backstory! I love the new storyline I came up with; it has a lot more depth and is a lot more interesting for Kavuta and Vaesa! It gives me more to work with for them. Below are the major changes in their story!
The new storyline for them:
A once great Kingdom, Hallownest, was lead by a demigod, a Half-Astran named Kavuta. He represented knowledge and higher learning; a rare albino Dravhokonus. He meant well, built a great kingdom; prosperous and powerful; but then his pride got ahead of him and he started to snuff out the influence of all other powerful beings.
His attempts to drive out other powerful beings ultimately lead to his feud with Vaesa, or.. the Radiance. She represented Light and Dreams, and was infuriated by this upstart young King taking everything she built away from her; even taking away the Lepidians who had worshipped her for generations.
They fought viciously, Kavuta using all the power he had to try to grow his Astran side to overpower that pesky mortal flesh that he felt was holding him back. Vaesa ended up using her power against his Kingdom, spreading a terrible plague, and turning his subjects against him by force, causing suffering to spread wider and wider. She was too angry to see the true harm of what she was doing. The once benevolent, peaceful and gentle goddess had been twisted into an angry monster and even her followers that remained loyal to her suffered at the heat of her wrath.
Furious, and scared for his Kingdom, he started to work towards a way to seal her away. He found research from what had once been a great civilization deep within the vast caverns his Kingdom was built in; and started working with powerful magic to create beings that would hold back and seal off the angry goddess’s power. His attempts to create the Vessels, who later became known as the Vhessen, started.
Many failed attempts were left down there, abandoned and sealed; then put into stasis by Xonoth to save their lives, but the one he deemed perfect became the Hollow Knight; the Pure Vessel. It was brought out and trained, and when the time was right, the Radiance was sealed within the vessel. He then placed his Kingdom in a time-stasis, in hopes that it would last eternal, using her power, but that eventually fell apart too. She managed to break into the Hollow Knight’s mind, spreading her power far and wide through the Kingdom. The once benovelant goddess had become a messenger of death; and the Kingdom finished falling until very few were left alive, suffering with her plague and her burning light searing their minds and driving them mad.
Kavuta was knocked out of commission, falling into a comatose state, using what power he had left to slow down time in Hallownest as much as he could, to try to stave off the end. Hallownest’s fall remained a moment trapped in time for hundreds of years until the desperate screams for help from the one holding her sealed within broke through the stasis and awakened its twin sibling, who managed to break free from where their kind were sealed and went through the fallen Kingdom, fighting those driven mad by the angry goddess’s plague, gathering power and growing stronger and stronger until it faced her. The Ghost of Hallownest; Little Ghost. They fought savagely alongside it’s Dreameater companion; and it ended up devouring all of her power, knocking her down to the mortal world; forcing her to live like one of them to see the suffering she caused. Kavuta awakened after that, with all of his power stripped as well, in the remains of the kingdom he caused the destruction of.
During his time unconscious, Kavuta had a near-death experience where he encountered an Eldritch Entity known as He Who sees All, where he was forced to see the consequences of his actions up close and when he awakened his power was gone and the Eldritch Entity’s mark was on his forehead.
Vaesa went through similar; nearly killed, her power drained away. She was forced to face everything she had done, to see up close how twisted and terrible she had become, and awakened beside Kavuta. At first, they wanted to fight, to blame eachother. But then they realized they were both to blame. They settled in the remains of the White Palace, determined to make right what they did, and over time they came to an understanding of eachother and built a surprisingly close, almost sibling like bond.
