I had some thoughts regarding the Pale King, despite not having found him in my own playthrough yet. The community has indulged me with enough interpretations to notice one particular aspect that often seems overlooked:
Most depictions portray him as an observer or manipulator, while in combat, a few artists have granted him abilities similar to those of the Radiance herself.
I have yet to find any in-game text that mentions his abilities or fighting style, but I believe the knights and retainers of the palace were likely responsible for shaping Hollow into a warrior, rather than their father personally overseeing such teachings.
"A pale being that shines bright." from what I recall.
The first time I encountered this description in the lore, I interpreted it metaphorically — as though he were beyond perception, something that could not truly be looked upon. Later, however, I considered another possibility: perhaps he is simply, physically brighter.
If he were capable of controlling such a trait, he might be able to blind those around him— a divinity so radiant that it borders on incomprehensible to the mortal minds of his subjects.
When giving him a mouth in my designs, I imagined something resembling a centipede's, hidden beneath the shell of his face much like the rest of his body. The detail of him shrieking is intended to deafen those nearby; he emits a frequency too high for lesser beings to endure.
These ideas, however, will not find their way into the comic. I doubt Grimm, and especially the Nightmare King, would ever consider provoking him.
After all, it is improper to disrespect one's host. 🥀
