The mystic wisteria flowers of Kawachi Fujien in Kitakyushu. During the epidemic, some cities opted to cut down the blooms to prevent gatherings. As a result, this is the first time I’ve seen a full wisteria bloom. Adding to the unique atmosphere is the sweet, honey-like aroma of the flowers, which is so strong it’s almost overpowering. July 12 1918 a large explosion was heard at 15:51 on Imperial Japanese Navy Battleship Kawachi in Tokuyama Bay and large quantities of smoke between the 1st and 2nd funnels. 4 minutes later she capsized at 15:55 killing around 600 and with 433 survivors
