Sex wasn’t his reason for coming over but sex was usually what ended up happening when the two of them saw each other. They were official now... Whatever that meant. Alek summed it up to fucking the same person with consistency and a measure of loyalty. He had news, bad news, the kind that he wasn’t really sure what to do with. It was the sort of problem that he couldn’t solve with his teeth or his claws, so it wasn’t something that Alek really knew how to deal with. The Eye had put something in him, there was a way to get it out but it was... Dangerous. Life threatening, maybe worse. Kayce was his boyfriend, sure, but before that he was one of his oldest friends, and while Alek couldn’t really admit this to anyone but he was scared. Terrified. Scared his brother would never wake up, terrified of losing his mind, or that he’d die and everything he’d built would wash away. New Rome a fleeting dream, a blot in the long history of the ancient city.
Alek didn’t want to be a footnote, some story passed down from one to another. What would they say about him when he was gone? Brother killer, cannibal, selfish upstart and failed alpha? A myriad of hopes and dreams were pinned on him, not least of which was the future he’d started to consider with the man next to him. Kayce was the only person who didn’t ask for anything, didn’t expect anything, he was just there. Cheeky, comforting, and familiar. That stupid shit-eating grin on his face, a mechanic that laughed at his own jokes. Former crook gone straight. Murderer, like Alek.
“I uh-” Alek finished pulling his clothes back on, a smoke between his fingers before he looked over at Kayce, “there’s something I need to tell you.”
