"If we encourage children to think as they read and to register those thoughts by leaving a stick on note on a particular page, a whole social culture soon develops." I never thought of using sticky notes for literacy. I personally love sticky notes and use them for almost everything, but providing each student with a stack of post it seems like an amazing idea. I can remember when I was in elementary school and when I was asked to read. I always felt that all of my great thoughts or questions left my brain before I got the chance to ask about about them or before I finished the page I was on. With using sticky notes, students can write down whatever it is that they need to remember about the book or things that interest them so that they can keep the story close with them. On that same note, I think the use of sticky notes are great for assisting in comprehension. Students can write down key points to help them remember things in the story that are of importance when comprehending the passage.

I found this video and HAD to use it. Not only is it hilarious, but it captures a great point when connecting pop culture and the classroom. We discussed in class a lot about incorporating pop culture into the class for various reasons. These reasons include connections with students and other peers, helping students to create mental connections with information and pop culture and allowing students to feel a sense of power when learning about something with their favorite pop culture icon(s) involved in the process. When I saw this video it made me realize that learning really does happen out of the classroom. For instance, the children in the video are talking a lot about world history and how that is discussed a lot in the television shows that they watch. Most parents and teachers think that television is a source for brain damage, but little do we realize that it can teach valuable information to our students/children. Incorporating pop culture can be tricky, but it can be done.

I found this video to be quite interesting. I did not know what round robin reading was until I read the article and from the sounds of it, it doesn't seem to be a method of reading that is very valuable for students. I can personally remember being nervous when reading aloud in class, because there were others that were better than me. To this day, I can say that I still get worried about reading in front of others, so I'd hope that after seeing this video and reading the article, we as future teachers can steer away from all the funky methods of oral reading in the classroom.
