Headcanon: After the events of the show's ending, Makini makes annual visits to the Pride Lands to check up on her baobab tree (planted in S2 E28). She visits it to remind her of the "good old days" she had in the Pride Lands and the hope that her tree inspired for everyone during the war.

Eventually when she reaches Rafiki's age, she retires as the Royal Mjuzi of the Tree of Life to her successor and returns to the Pride Lands to live out the rest of her days with her old family and friends.

When her time comes, the Pride Landers bury her by her tree, honoring her final wish. Her tree becomes the biggest tree in Mizimu Grove and she unofficially becomes a "legend."

A lot of people say The Lion Guard should’ve taken place after Simba’s Pride. I disagree, and say that its place in the timeline was a good decision (if not, the lesser of two evils).

There are a lot of reasons why that is (such as character bloat, audience alienation, ect.) but the one thing I’ll bring up is how both in-universe, and out-of-universe The Lion Guard is meant to represent the next generation after The Lion King.

In-universe, it features the generation after Simba and Nala’s, involving Kion and his Lion Guard + Kiara, Tiifu, and Zuri. Janja’s clan of hyenas are the next generation of hyenas following Shenzi’s clan (regardless of whether or not you take the promos referring to them as “descendants” to be canon). The main conflict of the pilot is how Kion breaks the traditional molds set in by previous generations, and ultimately proves a mouthpiece of said generation (Simba) to be in the wrong.

In a meta-sense, The Lion Guard is aimed towards the next generation of children whose parents were likely around for the original film's release and manages to appeal to them through things like morals, or music, which is a big reason the show took off in the way it did.  The in-universe instances of “the next gen.” are done to gravitate towards this newer, younger audience.

Where am I going with this? Well, the reason this is done as well as it is, is because the show is strictly anchored only after the first film, meaning there is as much of a seamless transition to showcase this. You lose a LOT of that by having the show placed after TLK 2 because there’s yet ANOTHER generation in-universe (Kiara, Kovu, Nuka, Vitani), that was skipped over. And it would undercut those themes entirely, not to mention confuse the young audiences at home who have likely never watched TLK 2 (because remember, beyond the online fandom, this movie, along with many other of Disney’s straight-to-video sequels are VERRRY unpopular). It would’ve felt too much like a Lion King 2 spin-off instead of a Lion King spin-off.

This isn’t say there are no inconsistencies between TLG and TLK 2, or that the show's narrative isn't at all hurt or hindered by taking place in between the second movie, but it’s the lesser of two evils.

Headcanon: The reason Timon thinks that stars are fireflies is because he recognizes fireflies as one of, if not, the ONLY bug species that he cannot eat.

For necessary context: Fireflies are poisonous (not lethal, but they emit a nasty tasting chemical that gives predators a run for their money, the reason they glow the way they do is to warn off bug-eaters)

Either he was taught to never eat them, or he ate them and realized that they were not like other bugs. And he came to the conclusion that these are the "outcasts" of the bug world. Being an outcast himself, he began to view the stars as "fireflies that got stuck up in that big bluish black thing." It was both his way of rationalizing why he couldn't eat those bugs, and it was also a comfort belief; If the "outcast bugs" can become something beautiful that he could see every day, maybe he could as well. And he'd always have those stars to remind him that his "big bluish black thing" was out there, waiting for him to get stuck in it.

And eventually he found it. In the form of a smelly warthog, a lion cub with a questionable past, and a big f*cking pointy rock.

In the original script for TLK when it was called "King of the Beasts/Jungle" Timon's surname was Vandermeer.

I like to HC that Vandermeer is his the family name on his paternal side and Berkowitz is from the maternal side of the family. I can likely see him resonating more with his maternal surname if anything.

OKAY, fascinating! That’s actually new information for me, which is SHOCKING. 🤣😭 To be honest, I haven’t delved that deeply into old versions of the script. But that is neat.

My fun little Zazu headcanon is that when he was a chick and had trouble flying, Sarabi and Mufasa cheered him up by taking turns carrying him on their heads or backs whilst he raised/flapped his wings and pretended to fly.

For a good visual reference think of that one iconic scene from Titanic (yes, THAT iconic scene, "King of the World").

Eventually one day, without even thinking it he actually managed to get airborne.

How cute! That's interesting, thinking about a younger Zazu being not so sure of himself. And I'll always love friendship headcanons about these three, especially Sarabi and Zazu.

I personally don’t want a continuation of The Lion Guard (i.e. a fourth season or sequel series). Disregarding the fact that neither is possible because everyone on the show moved on after production finished and would be contractually impossible to bring back (especially the creator that no longer works for Disney, really don’t like how people are flooding his Insta with demands for a Season 4 despite him saying it isn’t possible).

I personally ~ really disliked Season 3. It was overall just a poor conclusion to the characters and their story and I’d rather it be left at that. Beyond the realm of fanfiction, I don’t see any officially released Lion Guard continuation that would be good or even decent. If Bunk’d has taught me one thing at a young age about shows, it’s that getting renewed for more seasons after its intended ‘finale’ has the *very* high risk of seasonal rot past the point of salvation (I use Bunk’d as a frame of reference for a lot of shows people think should get renewed for more seasons after having reached a conclusion, Lion Guard included)

I’d in earnesty prefer a follow-up to Mufasa: The Lion King in the CGI timeline rather than countless new seasons of The Lion Guard that milk the series dry and lets it become stale due to quantity over quality. I feel as though either way, the monkey’s paw (or in this case the mandrill’s paw) would curl inwards and the fandom would have this huge knee-jerk switch up to hating this show again, or some other unforeseeable form of discourse despite so many people claiming it to be what “the fans” have been begging for.

And all of this coming from a longtime fan of the show myself who personally hopes Disney does *something* noticeable to celebrate the 10th anniversary of TLG next year. I just think it’s not at all possible, nor is it as promising as people think it is. If the unthinkable ever happens, then I will say the same thing I said when Mufasa: The Lion King was announced.

Please don’t suck.

Makuu has Ciconiidaphobia (a fear of storks). This was due to several traumatic experiences in his childhood where he saw his littermates be subject to predation from avian predators (and was almost taken out by one as a kid).

He often reacts very violently to seeing storks as a result, if not just averting them in general.
