gracie wasn't a pilot, but couldn't help but be pretty sure this is what being about to leave for deployment might feel like. she was all nerves, all energy ever since olympic trials. she'd been training and doing press ever since making the team, but she got a couple days off to spend however she pleased. well, mostly it was supposed to be spent packing and making any arrangements needed at home for the duration of the games. most people did stuff like hiring pet sitters or child care or whatever else needed to be taken care of. gracie had none of that, so instead she'd come down to the base to visit friends. anyone who knew her brother knew she'd made it to trials, and more than ever before walking around the base made her feel like some kind of home town hero. people she didn't even know had stopped to congratulate her on her way to the hard deck. it was weird and it was kind of great, but it also made her all the more aware how many people were going to have their eyes on her in the coming weeks. by the time she made it inside, she was seriously ready for a drink. she smiled at the familiar face behind the bar as she sat down. "how's the night going?" gracie asked her, heeding the ever threatening sign and tucking the phone that was almost always in her hand into her back pocket. "got any new drinks or should i stick with my favorites?" she'd try anything once.
