Okay! This is belated, because it was for the KBJD Show's opening dinner on Thursday, but I wanted it to get its own post. <3
Holy crap, guys, this show was amazing--but this guy. This guy. YG is unbelievable. He's the owner of Be With You Doll, and--
>He's the sculptor (for both the heads and bodies)
>He's the clothing designer
>He maintains the website
>He takes all his photos
>He does all his photo editing
>He occasionally does faceups
>He does the casting
There is nothing this man doesn't do. And he excels at /all of it/.
(Well, he does send his clothing designs off to be put together--but he also picks fabrics and, from the sound of things, works closely with the seamstress, so.)
He also has perfect taste in pets, because he has a hedgehog named Coco.
I had the great pleasure of getting to sit at his table for both dinners (neither of which I was expecting to get to go to! But oh man, so worth it, I'm so glad we were able to make them!!), and on Thursday night, he surprised everyone with a gift in the form of one of his YoSD heads. I got Strawberry, who is SO CUTE I can't stand it. I got to take a look at his boy, too, who not only successfully stands on one leg, but can stay standing on one leg while the paper underneath him was rotated so we could all look at him. I was immediately sold on the body (which is strange, because I don't normally like Yos!) and totally decided to buy at least one.
But Jack! Do you see him? Do you see how spot-on he is? He is the biggest doll I think I've ever seen in person! He's approximately 76cm tall, but that's before the boots, which YG sculpted the soles of. His expression is absolutely to die for, and Tumblr is being dumb, so I'll just link to the progress picture YG posted on his Instagram
http://instagram.com/p/mszaUWGeRC/
This sculpt is unbelievable! The pull in his cheeks completely sold me before I'd even seen his forehead; he really looks like there's muscle under there.
...And YG is completely self-taught.
Jack is a doll I completely didn't expect to come home with--but oh my god. I'm so glad I went to the opening dinner and had the opportunity to buy him. A lot of the other companies had amazing dolls, too, but I think Jack might have been the only one from Korea that was specifically sculpted for this event. The US-based artist dolls were amazing, too, of course, but /holy crap/.
I am still in awe of this doll. He's been in my room since Friday, and I still look over and can't believe he's going home with me. Strangely enough, even though I'm normally terrified I'll hurt new dolls, he seems incredibly durable and I'm more worried that he'll jump out and attack someone to steal their stuff than anything else. He is AMAZING.
YG was also so kind, he gifted me with one of his YoSDs on Friday--Paprika--who completely stole my heart. I carried her with me for the rest of the convention. We all then turned around and bought bodies for the heads he gifted us, as well as picking up Carrot. The only dolls of his that I don't have now are Wood and Star! If I can survive having Jack, I might someday get them; the engineering on his bodies is incredible (the Yos have little tubes that act as kips inside them for better posing--only without the chance of breaking or being seen!), but my god, his boys might be a little too big for me.
