#365gratefulNextRightThingChallenge #the100dayproject #day12 #tizzlovesrowdy #KCJoy #runningforjoy5k Running-for-Joy is a 5k (3.2 mile) and 1-Mile walk/run in Barnegat Light, NJ and (for "remote" participants) all over the world. This "Movement Memorial" was created to honor my friend and sister-in-law Barbara Joy Archer (aka "Friendliness") who died in 1984, only a month after graduating salutatorian from MIT with a degree in biochemical engineering. Joy and her fiancé John Hack decided to ride their bikes from the East Coast to the West where they planned to live and raise a family. On July 12th, Joy was riding her bicycle when she was struck from behind by drunk and high driver. The driver never stopped to help and Joy died only a few hours later in the hospital. Joy was a bright light in my life and I loved her very much, as all who knew her loved her. We always will. The first year, in 2011, there were three local participants and a few "with-you-in-spirit" remote participants. The second year (2012) for the first time we invited many people and opening this up to the public. We also started this Facebook page. In 2013 we added the 1-Mile walk. ***All welcome, everywhere.*** Please feel free to run/walk this event in your town as a remote participant, or join us in Barnegat Light, NJ. The reason we chose December 26th is because it is Joy's birthday. If you join, it would be great if you leave in the comments section your name /group and (if your are doing so and it is definitely not required) any pledge amount you care to raise in Joy's name. If you would like to donate in Joy's name please consider a memorial gift from Kiva.org, an organization that we believe Joy would have loved. Thanks so much!
