Biosystems technology as a technical variant of systems biology deals with the research and biotechnological use of biological systems. In addition to modern molecular biological methods, systems, and engineering tools, in particular, mathematical modeling, are increasingly being used to analyze complex phenomena such as the regulation of metabolic pathways or the mode of functioning of signal transduction processes.

Learning Objectives
The degree course, which is jointly sponsored by the Faculties of Process and Systems Engineering, Electrical and Information Technology, Natural Sciences and the Medical Faculty, enables students to undertake interdisciplinary training as early as the Bachelor's degree program and in-depth in the Master's degree program. A special feature in comparison to other systems biology-oriented courses is the high proportion of engineering and theoretical subjects. The first graduates of the degree program, which was already introduced in 2004 found European-wide places in research institutes and the industry.

Course Background Information
The degree program "Biosystems Technology" is part of a holistic german university Concept of Process Engineering Programs. This study draws here in university Through the complex content, multiscale and interdisciplinary connection of all subareas of engineering education. A starting point is the mediation of around basic knowledge and detailed understanding of the physical, chemical and basic biochemical processes. Building on this, all will be a process (system)Elements (processes, sub-processes, micro-processes, elementaryBasic processes) and their interaction in a holistic analysis. In the problem-solving and synthesis become methodical concepts from the system engineering and signal processing included. Furthermore, the conversion of biological systems is being studied to learn from the efficient processes developed in natureSignal flow and the signal processing to learn.
