THE WEIGHT OF IT WAS HEAVY–- but not something she couldn't carry. no, no, not when it came to illiris. there wasn't a weight kaia wouldn't carry for her niece. she'd seen the signs before anyone said anything. started with noticing illiris wasn't around much, then she started hearing from her less. it didn't matter if kaia was the one reaching out. then recently quinn reached out. vague but concerned. kaia was ready to rush over on that alone. but then mini also reached out. and for a moment her world s h a t t e r e d. not again.
they've been down this road before and kaia was ALMOST annoyed with herself. for not realising sooner. but she reminded herself this wasn't about her. pulling herself together just as quickly as she fell apart. kaia didn't pause to overthink. she made her way to where she was told illiris was staying. after being let in, kaia found illiris sitting there, quietly. placing herself in front of illiris, kaia sat on the coffee table. she waited a moment, allowing the silence to settle around them. “ how's my girl holding up? ” her voice was soft. similar to one she'd use at work, but with something more genuine behind it.
