@Fabio Bucciarelli for The New York Times
In last weeks’ webinar we got to hear the journalist/photographer Fabio Bucciarelli talk about his latest and most known work. One of these included, taken the latest circumstances, the corona virus aka Covid-19.
The picture that I have chosen is one of his series from Corona virus. He told us a lot about it and his experience. He took the pictures in Italy, where Corona is at its’ worst.
He had to wear special white costume that covered his whole body, a mask. He couldn’t be changing lenses or so when he was inside, so he would have prepared two bodies with two different lenses that he wanted to use. He made connections with families. Take for example the man in this picture above - he has healed and is better now, tells us Fabio.
He worked there about two weeks or so.
I find it brave in a way, to be willing to go to so many families and hospital to get world to see what is really happening and to capture the history. Since Fabio himself is Italian it was no problem for him to make connections with the people and I think they were more willingly opening the door to him than to any other photographer/journalist who would not for instance talk Italian. In these hard times it’s important to be able to trust people and help each other.
Other thing that stuck in my head is how he talked about ‘dealing’ with seeing many ‘horrifying’ stuff like corona and such. He said that you need to get out there and do your usual stuff. You get home, you need to go out with your friends, to be reminded that this is life as well. To be back in your own reality.
I really liked the webinar and to be listening to a person who has lived through many happenings and was able to capture so many of them in such amazing way.
the-radio-princess replied to your post “if alastor got you pregnant would you want it to be meaningful? what...”
Careful! All this talk might also jinx her and BOOM baby XD
And then BOOM the sound of a shotgun being fired from one of her family members at Alastor.
