The year has hardly even started and there's thrilling news flying back and forth over the inter-webs about our most favorite subject, Austin Food Trailers! And in particular, food trailers that have or will be transitioning to brick and mortars! If you're excited to patron their new locations (and why on earth wouldn't you be?) here's a list of some must tries!
Curly's Carolina, Tx Location: 112 E. Main St., Round Rock, TX
At the tail end of last year, Curly's Perfect Pig and Hall of Flame joined together to form Curly's Carolina, Tx. Now they call a beautiful old building in downtown Round Rock home. If you're new to our blog, I'll let you in on a little secret… They're my absolute favorite BBQ place in Austin and totally worth the schlep to Round Rock!!! (If you're not new, a little reminder never hurt anyone!)
Capital City Bakery Location: 2211 E. Cesar Chavez
This wonderful bakery has been bringing soul warming baked goodness to the vegan Austin community since 2011! And rest assured, you're not missing out for going for one of these cruelty free treats instead of the alternative. Their pastries are decadent and to die for! Check out their website for a full menu!
East Side King Location: 2310 South Lamar, Suite #101
World renowned chef Paul Qui, worked at Uchi, then Uchiko, and then opened the East Side King food trailer. Finally this winter, he and his co-founder Moto Utsunomiya opened a brick and mortar on South Lamar! Oh and at some point along the way Paul won the title of Top Chef, and curated SouthBites, the official SXSW food court, you know, no big deal… Oh yea, and their food is phenomenal, but you know, to each their own… ;)
Kebabalicious Location: 7th & Navasota
These guys have been a favorite of mine for a long time. They make delicious Mediterranean food, especially gyros - which are fresh, fragrant and delicious! And! Their falafels are fantastic. Which is saying something, because I've never been a fan of falafel before. Then, I tried theirs at Truck by Truckwest and was immediately converted! It's very easy to dry out falafel, but theirs are moist and fluffy! Yay for yum! If you have a hankering from some delicious spinning meat, they've got just the thing!
The Peached Tortilla Location: 5520 Burnet Road
The Peached Tortilla is planning to open a brick in mortar in Fall 2014! They are one of the most prominent pioneers in the Austin food trailer community and are co-creators of our beloved Trailer Food Tuesdays! Their food is delicious, fun, and imaginative, and we are so happy for them! Here's a preview of their concept for the restaurant, from their press release:
"The concept will focus on serving urban Asian and Southern comfort food with a modern twist. The restaurant will expand on the flavors from the existing food truck and catering company, serving some of their greatest hits in addition to new items such as unique rice bowls and savory noodle dishes. While the restaurant is under construction, the company will continue to use their pop-up dinners as a test kitchen to solicit feedback from diners. The next installment of the popular series is set for late February 2014." Read More @ Austin.Eater.com
Austin Food Trailers is super excited for all the trailers that are growing and expanding! Congratulations guys! We also want to express our gratitude to the people of Austin who support the mobile establishments. You guys ROCK!!!
