40k in 42 days, day 18
Hello writerly friends!
It's nearly halftime but I have a busy and long weekend ahead of me and don't know if I'll be able to post on day 20. So, consider this an early halftime post.
Today I discovered that I can set a wordcount goal with a deadline in the Reedsy editor, the program I write in. At first, I miscalculated the remaining words and it spit out that I had to write 3200 words per day to hit my goal by September 14. That sounded a little ambitious. Then I looked at my numbers again, what the spreadsheet said about words not yet written, and fixed the numbers. Now the goal is 1074 words per day. That sounds much more reasonable.
(Take note of my amazing skills in naming the book and the chapters. Pure poetry 🤣🤣🤣)
As you can see, the book will have 80k in the end. To be quite honest, I did not plan to write such a long book, I mean, I thought this book would be like 45k (laughs in wordcount). But if I take one lesson from fanfiction writing to original writing, I should know by now that I can't write short.
Do you know how many words remain for you until September 14? I'd like to remind you that you can always fiddle with the goal, there is no rule that you absolutely have to write 40k. Set realistic goals, for the real world and your real life. There's no point in feeling guilty because you can't write 2000 words every day and the number of remaining words doesn't shrink fast enough. Nobody needs such negativity in their life.
The point of an event like this is that in the end, you'll have more novel than before. No matter how much you wrote. You developed your plot, your characters, your world? You wrote words? Congratulations, you did everything right.
Just put those words on the page. Breathe in, and find the reward in writing what you want to write. It doesn't matter how much, just that you do it. Put those words on the page.
