I've been thinking. bad idea on my part, but it's resulted in a bunch of new headcanons for random characters, so... net positive, ig?

so, without further ado, I present to you...

music headcanons, ✨️ teenage dirtbag edition ✨️ !!

first character is Rodrick Heffley. this dude ABSOLUTELY listens to Garbage and nobody can take that from me. it's canon in my heart that he drives around in that fuckass van of his blasting Version 2.0 at top volume. Queer made him stop being vaguely homophobic because he thinks being gay is punk rock now (and he's right). if you ask him what his favorite band is he'll probably say System of a Down or some shit, and he does love them, but his real favorite is Bikini Kill. he also secretly listens to Weezer, but he calls it "virgin music" to anyone who brings them up.

Charlie Kelly is a fun one. he listens to so much random shit, and I hc that he stole tapes & cds from thrift stores as a teenager just because they were easy to take. most of his taste is based on that music, just whatever he happened to grab. he really likes Ween, Abba, and King Missile. I especially like to think he follows the no homo rules & regulations set out in Gay/Not Gay simply because it'd make a great gag imo. he definitely accidentally discovered Ani DiFranco and doesn't fully get her music but loves her dearly regardless. on the flip side, I think he's the only person who would ever fully understand Bjork.

my personal favorite to psychoanalyse, as well as the one I have the most hcs about, is Shawn Hunter, specifically BMW high school/college era. he canonically loves Counting Crows, and I always associate Round Here with him. I think he listens to it on loop when everything sucks. I think he'd be really into Radiohead and Fiona Apple and John Prine, maybe throw some Indigo Girls in there. something something sapphic awakening blah blah lesbians. Veronica was more than a one-off undercover persona and i stand by that. I also think she'd secretly love Britney Spears. no real reason behind this other than I really love her a lot and she's cool.

okay that's all for now. I have to be up in an hour and I haven't slept at all. sighs loudly. hoping nobody ate that half a krispy kreme yet. I was gonna have it for breakfast. does anyone else have strong feelings about yogurt? please elaborate in the comments below, thank you

he didn't seem to recognize me, but i remember how we used to walk home from the bus stop together

sometimes, when the winter weather was too bad, my mom would pick us up. she'd always offer him a ride. he'd always say "thank you."

I'm not surprised you didn't recognize me. i think I've grown sideways, a little lopsided and tangled. a little astray from the intended path.

you look different now too. we all do, it's been a decade after all. we were kids back then.

now we've both got stubble on our cheeks. you've grown about a foot. i think i only got smaller.
