I HAVE NO PICTURES OF WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT, but I will say this … adventure starts with “yes.” Somehow a week of tour has already passed. In addition to the shows with Counting Crows, I took a bite out of the novel I’m co-authoring with Alison Hammer, was part of a wonderful co-write for a cool young artist named Leon of Athens, and started filming a new mini-movie for the next single off “Keep It Up, Kid.” All cool stuff. Also, all the reason that by the end of my first day in LA, I had been awake for 24 hours straight (no stars, do not recommend.) And so, for the first time since leaving home I let myself sleep and in all my middle-aged glory netted an epic 8 hours. Woo-hoo! Then we filmed. Then we ate. Then it was evening and supposedly time to rest, when what to my wondering eye should appear but @thecomedystore so close and so near. Now I am of the opinion that comedians are the last truth tellers in an endless line of fakery, so I suggested to my tour manager Shady that we see if we could get in. It was sold out, but we waited around and eventually were granted passage into one of the most unforgettable nights of my life. Sitting 5 feet off stage right, we watched 3 straight hours of @sebastiancomedy @aliwong @bertkreischer @whitneycummings @bobbyleelive @marcmaron @nealbrennan @ianedwardscomic just KILLING. It was a gift from the Gods. A flash of inspiration that reminded me of my first rock concert. The thing is, I had a totally different summer planned for myself, but … YES to tour with @countingcrows. YES to book with @thishammer. YES to video with @thatpeterharding. YES to co-write with @leonofathens. YES to @thecomedystore. ..: and all that “Yes” has led to one hell of an adventure. And to be clear, every single “yes” scared me. But I said it anyway and now I have these memories. 4 more weeks of shows.
