Hi! There to all my avid readers welcome to my blog. This blog which you read right now is for upcoming HUMSS or planning to go for the HUMSS strand. Oh! By the way, before I forgot, I first give some quite information about myself. My parents named me Princess Dyan Mugot. 18-year-old lady. Lived at my grandma's house. I choose the strand Humanities and Social Sciences because I would like to become a teacher someday and I think this strand will help me to improve and achieve that goal. There are a lot of things to be considered when taking up HUMSS such as we are more on to serve, to lead, and to communicate. When I'm still a 10th grade student. I have been searching up for things to prepare before taking up HUMSS. So, now I'm going to do this blog for you have to prepare on this strand. Just keep reading on it.
HUMSS stands for "Humanities and Social Sciences". It is one of the strands offered to Senior High Students. If you are that person who needs to improve your reading, writing, and speaking skills then continue reading on this blog. Also, this strand is fit for you. There are a lot of things that you need to prepare for this strand such:
1. Advance Reading
Exactly, you have to read advance so that you may be able to navigate on discussion with your teachers. Do advance read on Belief System, Politics, and World Religion. I also recommend you to read some novels book once or twice a week. One way to be expertly smarts is to read in advance.
2. Watch English Movies
I'm not underestimating our own movie here in the Philippines. But it is one of the best ways to improve your speaking skills but of course, if you do watch those movies, you must have practice yourself in English-speaking. It will really help you and the HUMSS strand to improve your speaking skills.
3. Be Open-Minded
Yes, it is annoying to those who were not open-minded. But I tell you this, you have to be open-minded in everything especially to those sensitive topics like sexuality. You should look at the realities of the world and also, you are taking Humanities and Social Sciences wherein you study about people, how they behave and act. HUMSS strand will build up your maturity because of the topic you will encounter. If you are willing to choose this strand then you must step out of your comfort zone. Another, there will be more controversial, and sensitive but believe me, it will really help you to get out from your comfort zone.
4. Confidence
Yea, you must have this kind of thing. You should be able to show them that you can slay, this will enhance your self-esteem. Being a HUMSS student should be "Makapal ang Mukha". Exactly, because you're always reporting in front, oral recitation, role plays and etc... This strand will genuinely boost up your confidence.
5. Sleep at the Right Time
Yes, because in HUMSS you will always sleep in the late night. I'm not scaring you but it will be more exciting, you'll be dealing with so many activities but you'll get used to it. Just enjoy this strand there will be more excitement.
6. Highlighters
Why? Because they will be giving you handouts. There is so much to memorize and you have to highlight the important information. Bring these highlighters with you always.
7. Dictionary
Yea, want to know why? Is it because you will be doing an essay, reflection, reaction paper and such. So this dictionary is important to you to look for a flowering word. You will be using it as your teachers ask you to make those paper works. Also, try to learn new words or unfamiliar words because it's helpful to you.
8. Scientific Calculator
It doesn't mean you are choosing the HUMSS strand there will be no more Mathematics. But there is, and don't have to worry about it because they're not their priority because you are focusing on Social Sciences. However, you still needed this scientific calculator for you to solve the equation problem. You will be discussing about the General Math; Statistics and Probability, you can study it in advance.
These are the things you have to prepare before taking the HUMSS strand. So what are you waiting for? Grab this strand where you can enhance your reading, writing, and speaking skills. Where you can build up your confidence to face so many of people. Where you can study the beliefs, perspectives and cultures of a different society.
I'm an incoming 12th grade in HUMSS and each in every day was a fascinating journey for me. So, your incoming 11th grade should be excited about the new journey and adventures with your life. Always remember in the time of your ups and downs you're not alone. Just believe in our big savior which our God. It's time to face new obstacles and challenges but don't give up and don't lose hope you can conquer it all.
So much for this blog I'll end up here and thank you to those my avid readers who read this blog of mine. Spread the love and more power. Adios!
