And then 40 years ago this month, Keith Green and two of the children pictured here died in a plane crash, leaving behind his wife #melodygreen, one of those pictured children, and her unborn child. At the time of his death she was pregnant with her fourth child. I can’t say enough good about Keith Green. I’m not going to say that he was faultless. He knew that he wasn’t and he was honest about it. But he was a truly honest man who said what he believed and tried to live it. And he was a remarkably talented musician, a piano player. In his early days he was being groomed to be another teen pop star, but then he became a Christian and devoted his life to that. His music started out as 70s #pop and #softrock, #piano based with guitar, kind of like Elton John, but toward the end of his life it started moving more and more toward increasingly sophisticated compositions and orchestral music. The second album pictured here #soyouwannagobacktoegypt actually features @bobdylan on harmonica during his own very early Christian days. Melody, after Keith’s death, became a very influential member of the pro life movement, even meeting with Ronald Reagan at one point. Looking back, her efforts as well as the efforts of the pro-life movement of the time were, and are, terribly misguided: she was trying to stop abortion by punishing women through the force of law instead of supporting them. I don’t think she saw it that way, but that’s how it would effectively have worked out. And unfortunately, she’s not able to be as honest about her life as her first husband was. When you read her website, you’d think she had never been married again. But she was.
