As we prepare to release our Best Picture Books of 2019 List with the Read With River Book Club later this week, I've been reflecting on all the beautiful books I've had a chance to read recently in consideration of the list. Far and away one of the most memorable, and beautiful, has been "Going Down Home With Daddy" (2019) by Kelly Starling Lyons and illustrator Daniel Minter. Sent to me by Peachtree Publishing, while I was only required to give it a fair shake, I knew almost immediately that this book about family and the importance of getting back to our roots was going to get top marks in multiple categories.
