         “so you really don’t believe in this stuff? not any of it?” kody decides to ask, slowly walking beside kendall in an attempt to distract her from aj and the two witches of the group who could be performing locating spells nearby. “like, you’ve lived here waaaay longer than me. nothing about this town has ever made you think ‘ mmmm yeah there’s probably for sure some ghosties messin’ with this place ’?” he very carefully chooses to only mention ghosts. the last thing he wants is for kendall to start believing that there might be worse supernatural creatures ( like for example, himself ) in bridgemead... though he is pretty certain that a casual comment coming from him isn’t enough to convince her into becoming a full blown believer. “i’ve only been here for like almost three years and i know that there’s definitely somethin’ haunting my neighbors garden shed.”

        “thanks for picking me up.” kody says, throwing his tattering navy blue jansport backpack into the truck bed before climbing into the passenger seat of kendall’s brightly painted truck. it’s impossible to miss, even from across the parking lot. and while it is a different shade of green than the mystery machine, he’s asked kendall if he can spray paint orange flowers on it a handful of times. “i’m supposed to get the prius thursday to sunday but my mom needed it today.” he explains whilst buckling his seatbelt. he turns to kendall beside him once he’s secure, flashing her a grateful smile. the boy has just come from the old performing arts center, a spot where the two of them used to spend countless hours in class rehearsing scenes together, and most of the time, messing around and pretending they were memorizing their lines. “is it kinda weird being back here? even to pick me up? i know it’s only been a few months since you graduated, but i know when i’m done, i neeeeeeverrrr wanna come back.”
