Non-Force Au- Vient
Part 3
Vient had expected that meeting to end rather quickly but it went over the normal time limit and he had actually spoken to these strange people who were apparently merchants. The Twi’lek couple had remained mostly silent but at the end apologized to him before leaving the room, apparently they had misspelled the name of the child they wanted to see.
He had expected to not see them again but yet here he was waiting for them to arrive in the main office with Mister Hoke filling out paperwork on his behalf. For the sixth time he was sitting here to be picked up with Mister Hoke muttering under his breath on how he wished things would go smoothly.
Yet Vient was silently wishing that that this odd couple wouldn’t show, that they had changed their mind at the last minute and felt that it would be better for him to be left behind. He wished that he could go back to his bed and hide once again. He didn’t want to be here, but he didn’t want to be with another family that was going to dump him again.
But the Force didn’t listen to Vient, the couple arrived and signed the paperwork and before Vient knew it they were taking a speeder taxi back to their place. Leaving him with nothing to do but silently wish that they changed their mind before they arrived at the house.
But that didn’t happen either, they brought him home gave him a tour of the house and then set him free in his room until dinner was ready. The place was rather small, but larger than his old home that he shared with his mother. He had his own room, with a bed, dresser and desk. It at least allowed him a corner to hide in when they were going to turn violent. Even the small window could be used to escape if it wasn’t for the drop that would probably break his legs.
“Vient dinner,” Icahr called from somewhere in the house as Lexsha knocked on his door before opening it.
“Come on Vient, it’s dinner time.” she called softly looking down at how he sat on the floor with his bag. He hadn’t touched anything in the room unsure how long it was going to take until he got to leave. “I know the room is a bit empty right now, I wasn’t sure what you would like and Icahr wanted us to wait so then you got to pick things out yourself.”
Vient wasn’t sure how he felt about that last sentence and it was only the start of odd things they told him.
‘I know your kind love stews, so I figured this might be a good meal. Let me know if you need more.’
‘Is there anything that you’ll like to have?’
‘What kind of rules did you grow up with?’
‘What would you prefer..?’
‘What would you want?’
‘Is anything bothering you?’
“Do you want to talk about anything?’
Vient swallowed hard, those questions he had been hearing them for the past two weeks and each and every time he spoke out to answer them they seemed happy.
It scared him, it had been two weeks and so far his new room felt like it didn’t belong to him. Things were going too good. He expected to be shoved off back at the orphanage once again and instead he was here being treated as if he was one of their own. They were dropping credits on him for things he wanted. They were listening to him. They were gentle and kind and didn’t even try to ignore him.
He wasn’t sure if he could stand it any more. This wasn’t right. None of it was. None of this should of been happening. He shouldn’t be treated like this.
What made his mother angry? Him eating outside of meals, him watching the holo, him being too loud, him being too needy, him not taking care of his brother or taking too long in the bath.
He needed to do something and yet almost all those things that would of made his mother strike out against him were hardly a thing here. He wasn’t loud, he hand no baby brother to watch, he had his own bathroom, he didn’t seek out touch from them.
He needed new ways to make them angry. New ways to get himself thrown back with the others where he belonged.
First it was the things that they bought him. He tore them up; his new clothes, blankets, toys. He flung the mess around his room and when he figured it wasn’t enough he took things into his room to destroy. Their things.
They got angry yes. He got a scolding yes. Did they hit him no. Did they threaten him no. Did they drop him off no. They gave him a broom and told him to clean the mess he made and to apologize for destroying Lexsha’s favorite pillows.
Maybe it needed to be bigger? He targeted the kitchen next. He turned everything on, stuck metal in the microwave, dumped all the food, throw forks down the sink.
Did they hit him? Yes but it was one swift spank before he was sent off to his room. Once they were done cleaning his mess they went to talk to him and he felt bad.
No, he wasn’t suppose to feel bad. He was to make them angry so they would take him back. He couldn’t feel bad for what he did. He had to do this.
The next target was their room, but after cutting up one of Icahr’s shirts he stopped unable to make himself destroy anything else. If this wasn’t getting him in trouble maybe he should simply go back himself?
He mulled over it before looking up at the window of his adoptive parent’s room. It was bigger than his and there was a tree right outside of it. He had never climbed a tree before, but it would let him get out since both of them were down stairs.
Pushing the window open was difficult, but not as much as trying to steel himself for the jump.
“Vient?” Lexsha’s voice called out as she searched around for her awfully quiet son. “What are- Vient!” She had only caught a glimpse of him before he jumped out the window and out of sight. “Vient!” she screamed making her husband come running up the stairs to her side. “He jumped, he’s trying to run away!” she shouted pushing past Icahr and out the front door.
Vient couldn’t lie, having Lexsha shout his name right as he jumped scared him. It nearly caused him to miss the branch he was aiming for but he managed. But now they knew what he was doing and he needed to get away fast. If he ran far away enough they would give up and let him go back to the orphanage. He would be back where he belonged at.
He ran as fast as he could and thankfully no one tried to stop him. Every time he thought he heard his name he went down a different street or into an alleyway. Eventually though he had to catch his breath.
The sun here wasn’t as bright as it was back home. It was odd but it was nothing compared to the looks he started to notice that he was getting. Where was he? He didn’t feel safe.
Holding onto himself he tried to walk and ignore the growing feeling of eyes watching him but that didn’t work. Eventually traveling on his own didn’t seem like the best idea, maybe he should turn back and go back to Lexsha and Icahr.
Looking back Vient gave a small whimper as he noticed that there were a few large beings who were a ways behind him but looking at him. A chill ran through him as he looked forward, he had a really bad feeling about this but looking ahead at what was before him didn’t look that friendly either.
“Hey kid!” a gruff man shouted as Vient tried to keep walking. “Whats wrong little Sith? No armies to protect you?” Someone laughed.
“I bet he thinks this is the Empire.”
“There’s no guards to protect you here kid, where’s your parent huh? Did the Jedi kill them or are you trying to be all brave and mighty huh?”
The only thing running through Vient’s mind now was to hide. He didn’t feel safe, this wasn’t safe. Which way was home?
His little legs moved as quickly as they could to get him somewhere safe but while doing so he didn’t notice that he had walked into a trap.
