To say that this was out of the realm of things that Jason normally did was an understatement. He liked to cook and bake, though, even if he had a tight, cramped space to do it in, and not a lot of experience making it all happen. Especially when it came to baked goods. Still, he liked to think that his sour cream coffee cake had turned out pretty alright -- he had attempted it three times before landing on the final product, after all. He was standing at his little booth, greeting anyone who stopped by with a pleasant smile and a wave... until he spotted someone else. Competition. "Come to steal all of my baking secrets?" he asked, lowering his voice suspiciously as he leaned towards Kennedy a little. "I've seen your pecan cake. I'm confident in saying you're going to kick my ass."

WHERE: town council meeting, town hall.

WHEN: march 9, 2026.

Even though the meeting had ended, Josh had a feeling that people would be sticking around for a while, talking things over, making a plan, signing up to get involved. Even on a school night, as his parents would say. Even if there was a nervous energy, a sort of tension, there was also a camaraderie, a sense of people banding together and do something, and that was contagious. He had just signed the sheet up front to be on the committee -- he had to have something to offer, right? -- and turned to pass the pen on to the next person, smiling when he recognized Kennedy. "Giving this a go, too?"

"This is amazing!" Zoe replied with a smile as she faced her sister-in-law as they both stood off to the side. The ball had been a raging success from her perspective and she wanted to give credit where credit was due. "It's always so cool to see what events this town puts on and then to find out how it happens and what goes into it," she shook her head, sounding like an excited school girl who found out what goes on behinds the scenes. She would blame it on the alcohol coursing through her, but in reality she had always admired how things and events like this went off without a hitch. "Though I do wish I could have brought along the kids, but it is nice to have a night to just mom and dad, me and your brother."

Aidan had volunteered to both drive and tagalong on Kennedy's trip to the grocery store, which should've been the first red flag. The second was when he said that he needed to make a stop on the way home. "It'll be quick," he'd promised, blinker already ticking rapidly as he turned away from the apartment and in the direction of Lupine Lane. And now he'd coaxed his cousin into following him inside an otherwise empty trailer; one or two walls were still waiting on plasterboard, there were no appliances, and the overhead light he'd flicked on shined solo as an uncovered bulb. "So..." Aidan drew out slowly, turning in a slow circle in the middle of what would've been a living space. Hands lifted to his hips as he stopped moving, facing Kennedy. "This is it." Shoulders and brows jumped, putting on something that wasn't quite a smile, but was maybe on the way there as he waited for her reaction. "I'm gonna be living here at the end of the month." And it was the first Kennedy was hearing of it -- Aidan never claimed to be a good communicator.

WHERE: Mawk Tales / beach

WHEN: Polar Plunge (January 1, 2025)

Having arrived to Mawk Tales very early in the morning, Stelly had already taken the plunge, lunging into the water without a moment of hesitation, and drying off inside at the first chance they got. Although it wasn't doing them much good when they were out on the beach, trying to dodge water droplets and the tide as they snapped pictures for the Times. Spotting a familiar face, they knew that Kennedy would be a good one to keep their eye on, lifting their hand to wave to the woman as they jogged up the beach to meet her. "Do you mind if I take some pictures of you doing your plunge?"
