Indaco
King Street has been my home for so many years. It's a playground for locals as well as tourists and the blossoming food and beverage industry gives me great pride. I’ve always been a picky eater but as King Street has expanded, so has my palette with the help of restaurants like Indaco. My dining experience at Indaco, one of the newest members of the Indigo Road family, exceeded my expectations. I was seated at a high top table close to the bar and observed a warm and calm atmosphere, perfect for a date or catching up with friends and family. The beautifully renovated space was the perfect backdrop for the excellent service and food to come. I knew it was going to be good simply because I love anything Italian, but the expansive menu intimidated me. Jon Murray, the general manager, and our server graciously guided US through the menu and helped make selections that matched my likes and dislikes, while also pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone. My meal was truly incredible and I would recommend everything I tried. Antipasti: Burrata - Perfect for an olive lover like myself, portioned well to share, but it was the freshness of the cheese that really made the dish. Pizza: Fig, aged balsamic, chives, fontina, parmesan and smoky San Simon da Costa cheese Pasta: I tried a few since I couldn’t decide on just one…
Black pepper tagliatelle - This was my favorite, I loved the creamy egg yolk, I only wish there was even more of it on the plate.
Agnolotti - I like anything with mushrooms and the pork shoulder and pork emulsion made the dish rich and delicious.
Cappellacci - The blue crab was innovative and memorable, the dish had a well-balanced sweetness from the light creamy sauce and grilled corn.
Dessert: Toasted Almond Budino - I am not usually a dessert person but this was amazing, the perfect balance of sweet and salty with a great creamy texture.
I grew up on good old southern country boy style fried foods. Fried chicken, spaghetti, mashed potatoes and rice were pretty much staple items in our household. Some meals also composed of cabbage, oxtail, shrimp and gravy. Now, as an independent adult and a patron of King Street, I have the privilege of enjoying all of the fine dining and amazing food that Charleston has to offer. Although I still eat my fair share of fried chicken,I'd like to think that I have broadened my horizons considerably. I look forward to eating at Indaco again and again, my only regret is that I hadn’t eaten here sooner.
