I think one of things that makes me so upset about this whole thing is I keep reading these responses from conservatives where they’re like “BUT her boyfriend shot at the police!” Like, she was responsible for that and deserved to be killed? WHAT THE HELL kind of response is that? She deserved to be killed in her bed because some other people shot guns? Isn’t that manslaughter at a minimum? Like, if I lost control of my vehicle hydroplaning on water I couldn’t see well and hit a person and they died, I’m pretty sure I could still be convicted of manslaughter - I would still be the responsible party.
I went to a self-defense class at a gun club once. It was a women-only night and by that, it was only wealthy, white women. One of the women slept with a gun in her bedside table. She was laughing and telling a story about how one time she was napping on a Saturday morning, heard a noise, picked up the gun and cocked it - training it on the door, only to realize that it was her cleaning lady. She was laughing about how she almost shot a woman whom she employed. I was horrified. If she had shot her cleaning lady, she might well have gotten away with pleading self-defense.
I don’t think the actions Breonna’s boyfriend took are relevant in the case of her being an INNOCENT woman who was murdered.
Jesus, I have family and friends who are gun nuts and stand my ground kind of people. If someone burst into their house without warning (breaking down the door) in the middle of the night, they would be shot at too EVEN if they turned out to be the police when the lights came on.
It’s ONLY different because Breonna and her boyfriend, Kenneth are black.
