What Love Is

1 Corinthians 13:4

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud”

Love is such that it is wise and knows when to ask, when not to stop, and when to let go without having to regret about it.

Love is such that it is kind and gentle; it listens patiently; it understands affectionately; it speaks softly; it forgives divinely.

It is thoughtful to the other; it looks to the need of the other and it gives completely without asking to be repaid.

But whatever love is, it should not be the of the hurting kind. Love is trusting the other and being sincere in all ways.

Love is a hug, a kiss, a whisper to cheer the heart of the other.

my english teacher says that metaphors are infinitely more interesting than similes. so i guess people are poetry, then (instead of people are like poetry) because why would you compare if you could bring together? and maybe it's true maybe people are not like anything at all maybe they just are the curves of their arms are soft, light sentences that wrap around your shoulders and say, settle down, love. and their stretched feet are the words that dance across my page and then stop some poems mean nothing and some people mean nothing and some poems mean everything and those poems make you want to reach for the sun or those poems make you want to fold yourself up and put yourself away or those poems make you want to keep reading again and again and again because they're so beautiful and when you lose those poems it fucking hurts.

and you won't ever be the same

the rain is soft and the stars are out and she's making me smile like a little kid.

and if the world was always this calm, what could we be? how much love could we give?

and i listen to the rain drop softly on the trees and hope that there are others in this world who want this too, that there are people like me who are tired of this world that hurts so much.

and she kisses me, softer than a snowflake, or at least i'm wishing she does because all i can do sometimes is miss her.

what if everyone in the world could be this soft?

the stars try to be bright but there's too much happening down here, too much going on, and they can't shine bright enough through that.

and i wonder if the stars know how much i understand them. do you think that i could shine brighter?

and when she's holding me it's the best feeling in the world, she tells me it's all going to be okay, she tells me how much she cares about who i am and i think maybe, just maybe, i could stay soft and calm and just love, and that just might be enough.

let me be clear, i am not trying to be political, i am only trying to exist. but did you know that when i was fourteen years old i looked at a girl and i couldn't breathe. and those who know will understand, that we are not trying to be political, we are only trying to exist. and they say the word 'gay' like it's a controversial issue, like 'what is your position on gay marriage,' but i am not trying to be political, i am only trying to exist. and they talk about religious freedom, and then right to express their beliefs. okay. but I thought people had rights, not ideas. and they don't understand that i am not trying to be political, i am only trying to exist. so when people used to ask me 'do you have a boyfriend?' or 'are you interested in any boys?' i never knew what to say, because if i told them they would think i was trying to be political, but i am only trying to exist. and i want things to be okay, all okay, for us, i don't want to be a political issue or a debate point or a supreme court decision because i am not trying to be political, i am only trying to exist.

i watched the republican debates and they hurt me a lot
