There’s a breakup scene in the movie, Something New, and Simon Baker says to Kenya McQueen, “Maybe it just isn’t going to work.”
You know he doesn’t mean it, it’s a bluff, said out of anger and exasperation, he wants her to say, it’s not that serious, they can work through anything, but instead Kenya replies, “Maybe it’s not.”
The look on his face after she says this is pure pain as he tries to not get emotional in the middle of a grocery store.
I hope Lucas doesn’t force a break because like Simon, he won’t mean it, but I can see Eliott feeling so overwhelmed that he agrees because he thinks that’s what Lucas wants, or even if he knows it’s a bluff, he wants to protect Lucas from any further pain (even though it would cause Lucas more pain to lose Eliott). And I can see Lucas with a similar look of pain if his bluff is called.
Simon and Kenya eventually get married, so #endgame, but don’t throw out “break” or “break up” language when you really just want to stop fighting and love on each other♥️.
