Udukku is a percussion musical instrument which is also popular in Tamil Nadu. It is a smaller version of Edakka and has a similar shape. The instrument is made of wood and animal hide. The instrument is held by using a cloth strap tied at the middle. The sound is produced by beating on one side using fingers and the other side is provided with strings to adjust the sound. The famous Sabarimala temple and other temples traditionally performs Ayyappan Pattu using the Udukku instrument.
