Camp Safety Laws Nationwide
The loss of those 27 girls at Camp Mystic in Kerrville was truly a tragedy 💔
Texas Governor Abbott just signed a bill that would require Camp sites to update their safety plans to prevent more tragedies.
More standards are needed nationwide to implement safety measures to ensure people are not caught in the middle of weather disasters as it is very difficult to predict how the storms will shift from mild water downpour to violent and destructive floods.
However, there is always a risk involved when infrastructure is built around rivers banks, lakes and oceans. Typically those are the areas where water naturally flows during a storm.
I don't know the area of course nor do I live in Texas; so I can only imagine the landscape is challenging in many parts of Texas since floods are very common there.
Therefore prevention is extremely important.
Camping 🏕️ safety practices should also be implemented across all Parks nationwide. It should be required for parks to post safety signs across camping areas and temporarily shut down the camping sites when a storm is in the horizon, to avoid people getting stranded or drowned near the rivers and lakes
It's also challenging for first responders to be in all affected areas so it's important for people to cooperate and listen to the advice of local authorities. Prevention is key.
Failure to follow instructions from the local authorities about weather disasters can put you and your family at risk.
Do Not Ride The Storm. Seek Higher Grounds and move away from areas where the water naturally flows.
Prevention is key to save lives.
Here’s some resources/ways for people to help the flood victims and their families
