I’ve been binge watching GoHerping and Snake Discovery for a week now and today life sent me a reptile - a viviparous lizard that decided to brumate in our sauna boiler. Still a couple of weeks before weather will be right for lizards to wake up, so this one is staying with me in an improvised setup. Viviparous lizards have a very soulful gaze and you can tell they are truly present in the moment. This little man spent the first 30mins of captivity trying to find a way out, then rested, had some water, thoroughly explored his enclosure and went to sleep. I’m sure most of us wouldn’t be as collected in a crisis!

note: im going to let this lil guy free once the temperatures set in. ive done my research on these lizards but since this is a very temporary stay and there’s little care info on them, the setup is super basic: tissues for bedding, water dish, leaves, sticks, vines for climbing, 2 floors (modern architecture), mossy bark (he is sleeping under it rn. cosy), earthworms. i dont have a heat lamp but soon natural heat lamp is going to come out anyway :>
