Intangibility
SUMMARY: A fairly simple, but somewhat dangerous power, intangibility gives the user the ability to move through objects and ignore most physical effects their way. The person is still visible, but appears almost as though they are a ghost or hologram. This moment of transparency allows allows objects to pass through them and them to become impervious to the touch. Sometimes the user is able to pass the ability onto others via touch, but this takes much mastery and is very dangerous. While in a transparent state, the user, if unfocused can find themselves stuck inside a wall. It's even possible for them to suffocate if they can't get out soon enough and this risk increases when another person as well as another object is made intangible.
SPECIFIC ASPECTS: (1) The user loses his/her clearness and light passes through the user making him/her very close to invisible in light. (2) After enough practice, the user can make only certain body parts intangible, but the smaller the body part, the more concentration needed. (3) The passage through the object is only as fast as the user is moving through them. (4) If phasing through an electrical system, it's possible some unintentional damage may occur by disrupting the flow of electrons. (5) During the phased state sometimes the user may be resistant to telepathy, but it is inconsistent and out of the user's control.
WEAKNESSES: (1) They need to hold their breath while phasing through certain objects like earth due to lack of oxygen. (2) The power may be activated by accident during times of great stress. (3) It's possible for user to stay in an intangible state for unknown amounts of time out of their control. (4) Energy attacks have the possibility of affecting the user during the phased state. (5) The user could end up stuck inside an object.
MASTERY DIFFICULTY: Low. Intangibility itself is easy, but it takes much concentration to pass through objects and other aspects of the power.
CHARACTERS: Helen Fairchild, Kev Jackson
OTHER DETAILS: Intangibility is thought to be an early stage or sub-power of invisibility, given the user's almost imperceptible “phased” state. However, few users have the ability coupled with invisibility in order to support it.
