Review: 'its alright :)' by Kevin Walkman is perfect indie-pop for summer days
Frontman Kevin Walkman and his co-writer and producer Nick have been an inseparable duo since their sophomore University days. With inspiration taken from Arctic Monkeys and The Neighbourhood, the pair are shooting big with a style sure to get heads turning.
Walkman has a small selection of singles available to spin, with new release 'its alright :)' adding his fourth piece since starting up 2019. This short but sweet discography is engaging right from the start, with each new release showing a new side to Kevin as we jump from 'WasteUrTime' to '3:30am' and 'OhNo! and now the latest instalment 'its alright :)'
Kevin doesn't waste any time getting stuck in, as from the moment you press play 'its alright :)' will be in your face and looped in your head. A fast and simple beat paired with quickly spoken, yet partly subdued, vocals soon transitions into louder and more confident words as we get thrown into the joyful atmosphere of this cathartically buzzing track. Absolutely begging to be on everyone's summer playlists, this fantastically upbeat and radiantly sunny release will have you feeling like you're watching the setting sun whilst running through a sea breeze feeling like every moment will be alright.
Although you wouldn't expect it from the infectiously catchy sound, Walkman's story behind 'its alright :)' will have your heart aching. As he dealt with spitting from an emotionally-abusive partner, Kevin relied upon his core friend group to remind him not to return to such a harmful person. 'its alright :)' discusses his journey towards being happy single, a true reminder that in the end it'll all be 'alright.'
For a sure lift in mood, give a listen to 'its alright :)' here as we're certain it'll have you grinning if not dancing along with every fibre of your being.
