Alexis took a deep breath, trying to hold back tears. It was true the relationship between her and Kevin were very tumultuous and she tried her hardest to avoid what was happening right now. She did her best to swallow the lump forming  in her throat. “Okay… okay.”

Lexis could feel her heart pumping really fast, she wouldn’t be surprised if people in Alaska could hear it. His words felt like they were coming out so slow, she didn’t understand. She almost interrupted him until he finished. He was all in- all in- what did that even mean? “Kev- but.. Drew, what about him?”

❝ i love you, you idiot. ❞

Alexis inhaled deeply and smiled, she had wanted to hear those words so many times but not in this way. “You know how I feel about you, but we can’t. You’re hurting and you need time before you can be with someone else.”

Kevin likes to think of Lexis as ‘right person, wrong time’. He’d never admit it out loud, but part of him will always be in love with Lexis. He knows the feelings aren’t fair. At the end of the day, he’ll always choose Drew. But the feelings are still present. He loves Lexis and just wants the best for her - even though he’ll always secretly judge the people she dates.

But Kevin’s not in the business of throwing himself a pity party tonight. It’s late, and cold, and he really can’t afford to be getting stuck in his head. Not right now. Right now, he just needed somewhere to sleep and home was the last place he wanted to be. It wasn’t likely that his mom would be home—she rarely ever was—but Sydney absolutely would be, and he wasn’t sure he could handle her understanding. It would just be like a knife to his stomach as he climbed up the stairs; a constant reminder that he essentially wasn’t doing all that better for himself than their asshole of a father ever did for any of them.

Exhaustion tugs at his eyelids as he slowly drags his knuckles up to the door in front of him. He’s about to walk away—he’s sure full of dumb ideas and this is sure to be one of them—when the door opens and there stands Alexis Styles, hair messed up and eyebrows lifted in surprise. “Holiday?”

"Uh- hey," Kevin muttered, averting his eyes. "I know it’s late…really late and I probably should’ve called to see but I didn’t have any spare change on me for a pay phone. Anyway, uh…is there any way I could crash here for the night? I kind of don’t have anywhere else to go right now."

The door widens and Alexis allows him in.
