I'm stoked with this result at the Keyesville Classic XC!! 13th Elite Men. Some big names at the top of the sheet. I thought I was going to be farther back, but it went well apparently. The course was awesome and there was a massive crowd of cow spectators.

It was my first time riding there. It’s a pretty place to ride bikes! I’ll have to come  back and ride more trails.

2020 Keyesville Classic Recap

A bike race with a 30-year history isn’t too common, and one that boasts more than three decades worth is even more rare. Taking place on the southern tip of the Sierra Mountains just outside of Kernville, California, the Keyesville Classic is doing just that. After a year off in 2019, they were back at it - hosting a weekend full of racing. BikeFlights.com’s West Coast Marketing Manager Colin Blanchard headed down for the weekend to check out what has kept the Kernville Classic on riders' calendars for so long.

Founded in 1853 after gold was discovered there, the surrounding area bloomed with settlements filled with settlers in search of their own treasure. Now the area is known for a different type of gold: outdoor recreation. With a booming cycling and kayaking scene, the area attracts visitors from all over.

When the Keyesville Classic started back in 1988, bikes looked a lot different than they do today. But despite all the changes to bikes over the years, there is always a Vintage class at the Classic. Riders bring out all sorts of older bikes that are oozing with style. 

One thing to be said about the trails in the area is they are not easy, and riders are treated to some very difficult sections, like “The Snake Pit” on the downhill course. That made for some great spectating, and every rider’s families and friends made the short hike up the hill to check out how everyone planned to tackle this difficult section.

With the backdrop of Lake Isabella, it’s hard to always keep your eyes on the trails.
