TEXT DESCRIPTION/ALT TEXT OF THIS SLIDESHOW UNDER THE CUT. DO NOT OPEN THE CUT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THE TEXT BECAUSE THERE IS A LOT OF IT!
GREETINGS!
Do you like reading rambles about characters? Are you interested in learning more about Blorbo From My Head? Did you just happen upon this post while peacefully scrolling through Tumblr? WHICHEVER ONE, you’ve come to the right place!
Welcome to the GRAND WIP SLIDESHOW!
[picture of a wizard looking mystically into a blue orb, which has been duplicated numerous times around him so that the wizard is in fact buried up to his eyes in blue orbs, rather like a ballpit of mystery. The orbs are all labeled 'WIP'. I have added an arrow pointing to the beleaguered wizard with a comment of 'this is me (I have a normal amount of projects'. (I do not in fact have a normal amount of projects. This is a comedic falsehood).
A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE GRAND WIP SLIDESHOW:
"WHAT IS THIS?" It’s a collective introduction of the main projects I’m working on at the moment! Some are more developed than others, (for example, some have actual synopses and some don’t even have a plot) but these are the ones I’m fairly actively thinking about or working on!
"WAS THIS YOUR IDEA?" No but also yes? Originally I got the idea of a multi-WIP introduction slideshow from @ettawritesnstudies, but I think I’ve adjusted it some from her idea. Go read her book also.
"WHAT ON EARTH IS A 'WIP'?" That’s an acronym, it stands for Work In Progress. I’m using it specifically for writing projects. Who knows how technically accurate that is, but I’ve seen other people do it.
OK THAT’S ALL SLIDESHOW TIME
KiraWIP (title centered in the middle of the slide in yellow with some gears decorating one corner)
Section One: What Happens?
Honestly? I’m not quite sure. This is one of my more formless projects. I know about the world and characters, but I’m still working out the plot on this one. Here; have some ideas/themes to tide you over. Trains! Fancy parties! Generational trauma! About five different factions all planning a separate revolution! Revenge! Forgiveness! Airships! The sunk cost fallacy! Story spanning multiple protagonists! Why locking your enemy in a box for eighty years might actually backfire on you very badly!
Relevant Players In Our Story:
Kira: The protagonist! Everyone loves her. Except when they don’t. A skilled Channeler who has been frequently hailed as a prodigy, Kira is traveling the countryside in search of adventure! Unfortunately for her, she might find more of that than she was looking for. Oopsies.
Toby: The deuteragonist. Very chill guy, it takes a lot to ruffle him. Which is convenient, considering I’m throwing Kira at him. A Hunter, Toby is also traveling the countryside, but in search of people to help (that’s his job). Unfortunately for him, he is also going to find Kira. And the plot.
Hilary: The…. Triteragonist? Anyway, he’s a healer, and he’s just living a normal life in his normal little village. Unfortunately for him… well I can’t think of a specific segue but he is also coming in the plot. Sorry Hilary.
Snapdragon: A member of nobility, Snap has been groomed most of her life to marry into royalty, never mind what she thinks of that. I’m sure there’s no way this could result in her doing something like abruptly jumping ship to run around with a dashing prodigy. For example.
Julian Sasha’s adopted son, who he has a very normal relationship with. So normal. Anyway, Julian is a battlemage. Which could present problems if he were to also, say, jump ship. Not that he’d ever do that.
Eric: The vanquished emperor of the country. He’s totally dead, don’t worry about it.
Sasha The man who defeated Eric and made way for the current king. He’s so mentally stable don’t even worry about it guys,.
HeroWIP (title centered in the middle of the slide in purple with a silhouette of a caped figure standing behind it)
Section One: What Happens?
Welcome to Fairlight! Shining beacon of the Heroes’ Order, bastion of strength against the Null and all forces of evil. Totally not home to like five different forces of evil (and also the Null). This is a city of glimmering lights and spectacle, home to combat between heroes and villains that almost feel more like theatre than a true fight, and the world’s latest and greatest innovations. It is also an easy place to hide, if one can stay low- perhaps the best people to hide from the spotlight among are those who are themselves actively seeking it. Hard to stand out as something other when those around you are pushing themselves as far from normal as they can.
This is where Morgan has settled for the moment, selling her services as a healer by the mask name of Trickster, and using Fairlight’s bustling nature to get away with having fun while she does. Morgan has left her old life as far behind her as she can, rarely staying in one place longer than a few months, and has no interest in anything that could tie her down- or worse, back to her past. Unfortunately for her, that past is beginning to catch up to her.
Enter Ophelia Thorne! Hero turned villain, at least in the eyes of the law, Ophelia knows something bad is about to happen. The thing she doesn’t know is what. Ophelia isn’t the only one who’s begun to notice something’s wrong- Fairlight’s number one hero, Defender, otherwise known as Gabriel Zelman, has questions of his own, and he isn’t getting the answers he wants from the Order.
Morgan doesn’t want to get involved in any of this.
But the world is changing, in more ways than one, and Morgan’s insistence on staying out of it may not hold up when she finds something to lose.
Relevant Players in Our Story:
Morgan/Trickster: The main character! Morgan is something more than the average superhuman, in ways even she hasn’t figured out yet. She doesn’t want to talk about it. Generally incapable of taking anything seriously, Morgan prides herself on her lack of care for or reliance on others, as well as her competence. She’s fine, no matter what the voices in the back of her head tell her.
Ophelia/Muse: Formerly known as the Archivist, Ophelia is one of the two still living heroes from the Golden Four that stood between Fairlight and the Null- though it has been a long time since those days. Though Ophelia often comes off as a bit insane due to the side effects of her power, behind her often distracted gaze is a sharp mind.
Gabriel/Defender: Fairlight’s favourite hero and one of the few masks with no… well, mask, Gabriel is seen by most people as the Perfect Hero. The truth is, Gabriel has never been anything other- raised in a family of heroes, his path was always laid out. Gabriel’s had a lot of himself pruned away to fit that mold, whetber by himself or by others.
Lily: A huge mask fan, runs a fairly well known blog about the heroes in Fairlight between doing her homework. Recently acquired powers of her own.
Rai/Virus: A mercenary who operates from Fairlight and sells information to (almost) anyone who’ll buy it. Generally a good person to ask if you have questions and money.
?/?: A decently well known thief. Usually does odd jobs on request for people. Pathetic wet cat of a woman.
27: The 27th attempt at creating a new kind of superhuman by Future Labs. Not supposed to exist. Legally doesn’t. He’s fiiiiiiiiiiine.
Quinn/The Doctor: The man responsible for Morgan being what and who she is today. Morgan hasn’t seen him in a while, but she knows he’s out there somewhere.
WishWIP (title centered in the middle of the slide in blue, with a spear standing at the slide's corner)
Section One: What Happens?
Several years ago, in the North, there was a time where no outside reports emerged as to what happened. Everyone knows something did happen, but nobody knows what it was. But ignore that, and meet our protagonist Wish! She’s searching for someone, a search which has led her to the far edge of the South. A fruitless search, so far. A search which is about to bring her colliding with Song! Speaking of Song, she’s very normal. She is also traveling, for reasons undisclosed to Wish but which certainly don’t include being chased by people who are very angry with her. She is also a scholar, and also in need of a bodyguard! Hey, Wish seems capable, right? Why not get hired? Song knows a lot of people in the direction she’s going, maybe one of them knows the guy Wish is looking for! Wish, now traveling with Song (and others, in the future), continues to search. And around them, the world begins to show traces that may just lead her to the man she’s looking for. What happened in the North years ago may not be over after all, and it’s beginning to affect the entire continent.
Relevant Players In Our Story:
Wish: The protagonist! You remember her, right? From last slide? Anyway, she’s very badass. And polite. She’s the politest main character I have, and also the most badass. Doesn’t start fights, but she does finish them. Would be in a lot less fights if she wasn’t constantly getting sidelined by helping people.
The Mysterious Guy: I can’t really say anything about him without spoiling things, but he’s important.
Song: A traveling scholar who totally doesn’t have any enemies chasing her. On completely unrelated terms, would Wish like to be her bodyguard? She pays well. It’ll be an easy job, don’t worry. Constantly being gotten the better of by her curiosity.
Lyric: Reportedly, ran away from home to See The World. Certainly not lying about that. Regardless, is having a great time seeing new things and meeting new people. Yes of course he would like to come with Wish and Song! They’re going in the same direction, after all. It’ll be fun!
Rhythm: Looking for someone (hey, like Wish). Also looking for something, which is perhaps not what he was sent to do. Despite his laser-focus on doing both of those things, he is frequently delighted by at all these Things (just like Lyric! What a coincidence!).
Red Mercenary in charge of a little beachside town. Definitely doesn’t have any ulterior motives for anything. Sure, you can stay at her town, why not.
The Golden City (title centered in orange with the outlines of stained glass windows lining the bottom of the slide)
Section One: What Happens?
Welcome to Solace, capital of Solace, and otherwise known as the Golden City for its luxuries and riches! Such a prosperous city grows a rich crop of both nobles and criminals, and Felix Rose, otherwise known as Monarch, is a member of both classes. Not that anyone outside of a chosen few know this. Below the Golden City’s glitz and glamour, though, a problem has recently begun to emerge. A challenge to the crown has risen, with the promise of an heir to Solace’s true royal lineage, the one that rested many bloodlines of kings before the current one. This challenge refuses to be silenced despite the best efforts of the Shadow Guard, the loyal service of the King’s, and tensions are beginning to rise. Amidst these tensions, the crown has turned to the Crown- the artifact said to grant a ruler true authority to the throne. The Crown has long since been lost, said to have been stashed away in the maze of tunnels beneath the city after a particularly violent series of Crown-backed takeovers led the ruler who remained standing at the end to ensure such a thing could never happen again. Felix, meanwhile, is living life without more than a passing glance at of the turmoil beginning to emerge- a lack of observation caused in part due to the Shadow Guard’s increasing determination to catch him. Monarch, after all, is a thief increasingly raged after by jewel-less nobles. A moment’s lack of caution leads to the Shadow Guard finally being able to pounce, and Felix, faced with a jail cell, throws himself on the hope of an old law and rumours to avoid a worse fate. The crown seeks the Crown, do they not? And who better to find a Crown than a thief?
Relevant Players In Our Story:
Felix Rose: (AKA the notorious thief Monarch.) Protagonist! Very good at being whatever people expect him to be, with a side of innocently unassuming. Usually none of those things. Very smart, though people tend to overlook that because the numerous facades he puts on. Shannon’s twin, very protective of him. Helen’s fiance (secretly), loves her very very much.
Helen Whitehall: Deuteragonist! Everyone loves her. Everyone. Very sweet, but has a deeply mischevious side much akin to Felix’s, and a lot smarter and more cunning than people expect. Felix’s fiancee (secretly), loves him very very much.
Shannon Rose: Triteragonist? Just as curious as his brother, equally likely to land himself in a Predicament. Very open and kindhearted person, tends to collect friends like flies to honey. Very smart. Nobleman, inventor.. Felix’s twin, loves him very much, but has been getting very tired of his brother’s propensity to keep secrets.
Tai Ferron: Other triteragonist, if we’re going with that term. Very driven individual, will do a lot to prove her worth. Member of the Shadow Guard, very devoted to them. Marin’s partner/best friend, would kill a man for him (has).
Marin Shale: The gentle and calm counterpart to Tay’s fiery determination. Quiet for the most part, but people should not mistake that as being meek,.Member of the Shadow Guard. Tay’s partner/best friend, would kill a man for her (has).
Bricriu Callan: (AKA the notorious criminal Oleander) Local silver-tongued menace, leans into the Solite view of Amorians as conniving tricksters with glee. Bastard child of nobility. Befriended Felix in school and hasn’t left since.
Chasing Stars (title centered in pale blue with a white starlike shape above it)
Section One: What Happens?
The Star of Amyra, thought to be the last fallen piece of the meteor that made the Shattered Isles what they are today, has to the Isles’ people been only a fairytale, a bedtime story. Liz has been chasing the tail of this myth for most of her life. As it appears, it may well be more than a myth. Rumours travel fast, even from a place like the Spire, and when word of the Star’s existence arrives with the ragged remains of a scholar, it isn’t long before even the earth and air themselves are humming with the news. There are many reasons one might want the power of a fallen star, and with an expedition being organized to hunt it down, the balance of power in the Isles shifts on cracking rock and windblown sand. Liz, in a night’s span having changed position from only one of the Spire’s many scholars to one of the most important people in the Shattered Isles, is caught in the centre of it. And as her quest unfolds, what may be her only chance at finding the Star of Amrya isn’t the only challenge presenting itself.
Relevant Players In Our Story:
Liz: The protagonist! Probably autistic. Very sweet young woman. Has picked up a lot of skills via hunting the Star, not especially talented in any of them though. Currently a bit nonplussed by suddenly being in charge of things, but she’s trying her best.
Saph: Part of the Star Quest, supposedly because he’s a historian. He’s definitely not an Elder, why would you suggest that. He’s very normal. Please ignore the fact that he’s currently floating. Currently having great fun.
Feyre: Sent by the Starlight Elder to join the Star Quest. Diplomat, here to smooth out any political disruptions. And nothing else. Totally just that. Currently very stressed, trying her best to not die or start a war.
The Starlight Elder: Currently One Hundred Percent Totally Not Up To Anything . You can trust her. :)
Denna : Paladin sent on the Star Quest by the Paladin Elder. Here to make sure everyone Follows the Rules.
Ripple: Ocean Affinity Speaker sent on the Star Quest by… the Empire, definitely Has no secrets.
Moss: Designated tracker and guide for the Star Quest, sent by Queen Ophira.
This Story Is (not) A Tragedy (title centered etc; most of the title is in a pale greyish blue and cursive, while 'not' is in black and a much more handwritten font. there's an outline image of a pile of books in the lower righthand corner of the slide)
Section One: What Happens?
You cannot defy the Fates. Kit’s been told this from the moment he was old enough to understand the words. When the Fates decide on you as part of their story, you cannot change it. Kit’s been told this from the moment it became clear his best friend was chosen to be a Hero. If the Fates decide your story is a tragedy, it will end as one. Best pray it does not, for that is all you can do. The Hero’s Alexei’s Quest was always fated to be a tragedy. Kit did more than pray about it. Beware of voices that say otherwise. The Fates are never as kind as they may seem. Years later, Kit travels alone. There are old legends of Heroes who defied Fate, and Kit knows well that a legend is as good as fact. You cannot defy the Fates.
This story is (not) a tragedy.
Relevant Players In Our Story:
Kit: Main character. Average human with no especial skill or blessing, but has had a lot of practice spotting stories in action. Incredibly stubborn, has always had a way of biting off more than one would expect he can chew- and then chewing it (metaphorically speaking). Kindhearted- has the heart of a Hero, people have often said, even if he hasn’t the blessing or body of one. Currently searching for a way to kill the Fates.
Lucky: Protagonist. Hero, Blessed with the power of luck. Got that power and then instantly used it to run away from being caught in a story. Very reckless individual, just Does Stuff and relies on her luck to carry her through it. Named herself Lucky. Currently having the time of her life.
Micah: Protagonist. Young Fate, still in training to control his power. Has been sent to corral Lucky into following the script before she becomes a… problem. Outwardly very firm in what he believes, but inwardly conflicted about a lot of things, which harms his ability to control the very will-based power of the Fates. Currently hunting Lucky down.
Zei: The Hero Alexei, whose story was a tragedy. Currently haunting the narrative. …He’s dead, right?
?: The Fate who once presided over the Hero Alexei’s story. Currently angry,. Things are not all well in the golden halls of the Fates’ floating city, at the moment.
?: A Fate. Currently enjoying the show. Oh, don’t mind them :)
keyWIP (title centered in rust red, with a black outilne of a fancy key behind it)
Section One: What Happens?
What happens when a man works for years and sacrifices his life, moral code, and connections to create a proposition that gets rejected on the basis that it won’t work? Well, this is just a hypothetical, but this man might decide to prove that this works, at all costs. Anyway, ignore all of that, it’s totally not relevant. Meet Melody! Ever since her parents died, she’s been hunting for their killer. And also conquering the underbelly of her city, but that was really a side problem. On an unrelated note, the Scholars’ Foundry has sent out a call! There are seven keys with the ability to unlock any door they are fitted to. They want these keys, and are calling anyone who has come into possession of them to the Foundry, where they will surely be rewarded handsomely. Melody has one of these keys. She leaps at the chance to get into the Foundry, the halls of which are home to information that is very valuable to her, both to find her parents’ murderer and for Crime Things. However, finding this information may prove to be a lot harder than anticipated, as the other six key holders have motives and desires of their own, along with the Foundry’s own reasoning behind this call. Something’s going on behind the scenes here, and when the Foundry makes a demand that none of the key holders can refuse, Melody finds herself having to wrangle everyone into working together, while still trying to find the strings puppeteering this whole show.
Relevant Players In Our Story:
Melody: The main character! A key holder. Her two goals in life are to take care of her brother and to find out who killed her parents. Likes morals, being nice, and honesty, as a rule, but likes results more.
Varian: Another key holder, deuteragonist. Rift-touched, has the ability to detect Rift-like anomalies and use them to his benefit. Dashing rogue, has a way of endearing people to himself. Has a few big secrets.
Conor: A Foundry member and a key holder. Also a seer, with training as such. Really unsure that any of this is a good idea, but he likes not being fired so he’s trying his best to make it work. Frequent voice of reason.
Kai: Another key holder. Rift-touched, has a tail, catlike ears, claws, and fangs. Also very sensitive to Rift energy, can detect other Rift-touched. Very wary person, despite his chronic curiosity.
Adora: Another key holder. Desires only the finest things in life. Loudly self absorbed to mask her general insecurity.
Joy: The youngest key holder, a child of two nobles who spend most of their time on travels. Thinks artifacts are really cool and that artifact researchers are really cool too. Shy,
Yasmin: Final key holder. Rift-touched, inhumanly persuasive to the point of hypnotism. Very observant. Veeeery trustworthy, you can believe her.
Glenn: Former member of the Scholars’ Foundry, hasn’t been seen since he stormed from one of their towers one day after a proposal of his was rejected. Wonder what he’s up to?
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION;
A delighted looking stick figure leaps gaily in the corner of the slide, arms outstretched and one leg kicked towards the heavens, and says, 'Wow, what an interesting slideshow! I want to learn more about these projects! But how?'. An arrow points at the stick figure, suggesting 'YOU, PERHAPS'.
The rest of the slide is taken up by 'PLACES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THESE PROJECTS', which reads as follows;
My Wordpress: carolinaauthor.wordpress.com. This is where any actual writing will go up when I get to it. There’s a few snippets you can look at there from other unrelated things!
