of course they thought they were gonna be together forever, but he split about 2 months before veda was born
so she grew up with just her mom, who worked like crazy just to afford a little two bedroom apartment in manhattan
& while she didn’t have the big christmases or 20 birthday presents, her mom always gave her the love & attention she needed
& although she wasn’t blessed with money, she was blessed with looks
& when she was 16 she started scamming guys on the internet, sending them fake nudes while they gave her money
she liked being able to help out her mom and for the first time in her life, they weren’t struggling
& when she turned 18 it became more of a irl sugar baby thing, but she’s smart and always figured out how to get out of actually giving them the sugar lol
but one of the guys became way too possessive and stalkerish around the time her mark appeared a lil bit after she turned 20
so she packed up her mom & her stuff & moved to kingfield bc she’s always been a secret romantic
& she’s been here for about half a year now !

from a wonderful, loving moroccan-american sunni muslim family. zahia has always been a Golden Girl™ —— not the betty white kind, but the kind where she was always incredibly bright and creative and had many accomplishments from a young age. everyone loved her.
of course, she’s human. she had her share of failures too, or lesser achievements. her family was never unkind about it, always telling her it was okay whenever she was unable to do something. that only made her feel worse; did they not expect much of her, then? they’re just letting her be a failure, she thought. is that how they perceived her? not that special? she wanted to be pushed.
she has a very rich inner world, and she’s governed by her own perspective. in her mind, everything has to be perfect. she’s so hard on herself, and she’s honestly very prone to depression by nature. couple that with how she contains herself inside her own world, well... it’s really unpleasant for her.
she doesn’t quite know how to let other people in, despite being loved and praised all her life. she’s pretty awkward too.
she probably doesn’t seem like such a rigid perfectionist at first, though! she’s SUPER effervescent and talks way too much. her enthusiasm bubbles and overflows.
she was aiming to be a financial advisor at first, but in university she honestly... just mellowed down a little in time. her true passion is really artistic stuff. although the risks make her extremely nervous, her current career path as an aspirant fashion designer..... just feels right.
the lyrics in her blog description are from the song “remember my name” by mitski! honestly a lot of mitski’s oeuvre fit zahia so much. a few other songs that i listened to while fleshing out her character: “sunflower” by rex orange county, “please don’t say you love me” by gabrielle aplin
