This is something that has worried me in the past so prehaps it may help someone else to hear too: You cannot accidentally be KFF. It's literally not possible. Kin-for-fun is a specific online subculture with their own terminology, behaviors, and expectations united by the fact they're ""kinning"" stuff because they just want to fuck around online and make jokes, and don't mean thier connection to or with their "kins" in any genuinely introspective way. If you are genuinely interested in the topic AT ALL you're not KFF even if you can't produce masterpiece essays about yourself. Even if you can't easily slot yourself into a label. Even if figuring yourself out takes a while. There's no time limit.

Idk if this is a widely known fact, but it should be, so I’m telling it to y’all

Most KFF folks don’t even know the otherkin community exists, and only use the word “kin” because they’ve seen other KFF folks using it. Also the KFF community is absolutely ENORMOUS, and will not be changing their language or going away entirely anytime soon.

I’m saying this as someone who used to KFF with various fictional characters, LONG before I knew anything about therianthropy or alterhumanity. Honestly, I don’t really care about KFF folks, they are taking a very otherkin-specific word from us, but I really don’t think there’s anything we can do about it and honestly? They don’t even seem that harmful. They’re just a bunch of kids talking about how they relate to shit and I don’t think it’s that much of a problem. They may make the otherkin community seem more “cringy” but we already do, and that’s probably never gonna change.

So yeah overall maybe we should just stop caring about KFF folks

Edit: No, KFF are not otherkin and never will be, but I still think we should leave them alone. Also they will never accept the word “click”, “kin” is too widespread at this point.

Edit AGAIN: This also doesn’t mean we should respect KFF when they start making fun of us, I think we should treat them like any other folks: respect them by default, and try to educate and then block them when they start causing trouble.

Yet another coddamn edit because why the fuck not: They will also not stop using the word kinnie, and we shouldn’t try to turn it back into a slur. I think they’ve gone and done something great with it, rather than letting it remain a disgusting insult, so let’s respect it.

This might be a hot take, but as an otherkin, kff-ers and kinnies are completely fine to me. They're expressing their identity in different ways, and they're having fun. And that's fine. Just let them do what they want.

To put our opinion on the kff debate

There is another word people could use, it’s called clicking. I don’t remember who coined it but it’s basically a word that means the same as kff, without misusing terminology. Kffners experiences deserve to be heard, no one is against that, but using kin terminology creates a lot of confusion and it at the end of the day harmful to both of our communities. With the term “click” it could stop most of that confusion.

Seeing and posting all this stuff about KFF discourse has made me realize. A massive chunk of the population is KFF without realizing it. Pretty much every single person in every fandom I’ve interacted with has said that they “kin” a character or they are a “kinnie” for a certain character. So yeah considering that the actual majority of folks are KFF in many spaces really makes you think.

NO MATTER WHAT YOUR STANCE IS ON KFF FOLKS, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT THEIR EXISTENCE, AND THEY WILL NEVER CHANGE AT ALL FOR ANY REASON. THERE IS NO CHOICE BUT TO ACCEPT THEM, AS NOTHING ELSE YOU DO WILL MATTER.

THEY WILL NEVER USE THE WORD CLICK OR STOP SAYING KINNIE, NO MATTER WHAT YOU THINK. THEY WILL NEVER, EVER CHANGE UNLESS THE UNIVERSE COLLAPSES IN ON ITSELF.
