KHAND REGIONS GRAPHICS - [XIV] Itakh-Khand Itakh-Khand encomprised the hilly grounds north of Lûrmsakun between the Medlóshad Peka (Var."Goldhorse River") and the Noz Peka (Var. "Knife River").

Lake Ata is part of this region, being the greatest lake of sweetwater in Khand, fed by numerous of small rivers coming from the Eastern mountains of Khand, and was considreded holy by the Variags.It was the source of the river Medlóshad Peka and Noz Peka.

At the confluence of Noz Peka and Medlóshad Peka stood Sturlurtsa Khand, the traditional capital of Lower Khand and the largest city between Umbar and the Talathrant, with gigantic markets and spectacular palaces and monuments.The first Variag capital had been Ammû Khand but during the 720s, the variags transferred their capital.

KHAND REGIONS GRAPHICS - [XVII] Sâr-Khand

Sâr-Khand was the southernmost region of Khand, stretching over both banks of the river Sâr from it's confluence with the Pezar to the northern bounds of Arysis.

KHAND REGIONS GRAPHICS - [VIII] Ôlbamarl Plains

The Ôlbamarl-Plains were broad steppes south of the Khand Gap between the eastern foothills of Ôlbamarl and the western foothills of the Eastern mountains of Khand.

Ôlbamarl was an underground cave town and fortress in a southeastern spur of the Ered Glamhoth, near the Gap of Khand, infamous for being the secret hold of one of the Nazgûl: Ûvatha the Black Horseman.

Ûda-Khand was the far lowland lying between the eastbank of river Sírlith and the basin of Ylâ-Khand serving as a bordrmarch between Mordor and central Khand, shielding the Black Land to the east.

KHAND REGIONS GRAPHICS - [X] Khûr-Khand

Greater Khand (Var."Khûr-Khand" or ""Ata-Khand")) was roughly comprised by the verdant plains between the western ridges of the Kajbah and the Gap of Khand.

KHAND REGIONS GRAPHICS - [XV] West Khand

West Khand was a loose term for the western riverine valleys and was also used by the Variags to rename the lands of Chelkar and Pezarsan in times they had been unter khandian rule.

Chelkar (Har. ‘Sheltered Home’) was an upland region of Near Harad in the Northeast bordering Harondor, Núrn and Khand, and the river Ode Auchel ran through the region, the region was so named as the proximity of the Ephel Dúath meant the climate was mild compared to the rest of Near Harad.

Har.'Realm of the Pezar'. This is a region of Near Harad east of Amrûn, centred on the Ode Pezar river and the Rath Khand road.

KHAND REGIONS GRAPHICS - [XIII] Khand Amû

Khand Amû (Lower Khand or Khand Inferior) was dominated by deserts and occassional scrublands. The only permanent settlements lay along the broad, shallow river Noz Peka (Var."Knife"), a tributary of the Harnen.

The main city was Ammû Khand on the western foothills of the Ered Harmal, guarding the Khand Gap and the northern bounds to Upper Khand.

It was a realm of herders and nomads moving their lightly-encumbered bands around a circuit of periodic shelters and encampments, their routes dictated by the location of springs, seasonal pools, and intermittent streams.

KHAND REGIONS GRAPHICS - [VII] Khandu Prakhod

Gap of Khand (V. ‘Khandu Prakhod’). This seemingly wide gap between the Ered Glamhoth mountains on the west and the Ered Harmal on the east was actually narrower due to the extensive foothills from both mountain ranges, and was of great strategic importance.
