History of Fashion

The history of Asian fashion dates back thousands of years. The Far East was a powerful influence on Parisian couturiers in the 1920s. At that time, the region was seen as the fountainhead of culture and civilization. Despite its vast size, it was difficult for surrounding peoples to escape its cultural influence. One of the most iconic fabrics of the time was silk.

In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the diaspora of Asian immigrants brought modernization to the region. The blog will show how Asian and non-Asian immigrants embraced Western styles, including cultural cross-dressing. In the United States, this cross-dressing occurred in the Gilded Age.

Until recent decades, Westerners had little understanding of Asian dress and fashion. Most of their knowledge of Asian clothing was limited to stereotypes of Japanese women in kimono or Chinese men wearing Mao suits. However, Asian clothing is just as diverse as Western clothing. The cultural and language differences have limited Western historians from understanding the richness of Asian clothing.

Wrapped garments are among the most common forms of clothing in South Asia. The sari (or saree) is a garment with a variety of draping techniques. The dhoti is an analogous wrapped garment for the lower torso, worn by men. The dhoti is often wrapped and unstitched to form a pantaloon. Another common garment is the sarong (also known as lungi).

In west we saw early eras a resurgence in fashion and design. Long skirts and evening gowns became popular again, as did trousers for girls. Women also started to participate in sports and gained a more athletic body shape. Some of the most notable designers during this period include Elsa Schiaparelli, Madeleine Vionnet, and Main Rousseau Bocher.

Trends are getting change and the fashion is becoming more significant tool to represent the identity of a person. So now you have to set your choice what you want, what you wear and how beautifully you carry it.
