Arthur did not say a word as he continued down the steps, his eyes still lingering on the arrogant god. Finally, his sandals met the cold surface of the landing as he planted himself firmly against the edge of the stairs; he dare not go any closer.

“Nothing to say, hm?” Khonshu queried, a hint of amusement in his tone. “Even after all these years you still remain ever so silent when you are afeard—”

“Silence, old bird!” Arthur demanded, his fingers clenched into a fist, his nails digging into his palm.

Khonshu chuckled deeply. “Finally,” he breathed out. “I was beginning to grow tired of your good Samaritan facade.”
