Spent the past six or seven hours updating the Khryll’s mesh. Mostly to connect all the pieces into single geometry, since the fins and antenna were separate parts. I also tweaked the webbing into somewhat more complex meshes, so that there’s no weir clipping issues whenever her limbs are flexing.
I also optimized some bits of the fin rig, as well as implemented a scapula-like bone so that her back fins move more naturally when she moves her shoulders.
One of the more obvious changes is that her fins are now translucent, featuring the new foggy glass materials from yesterday. Really proud of that one, but there’s lighting issues whenever I try to render with a light and no background, as well as from behind the mesh, since they’re single-sided planes. I plan on making them use a double-sided texture, so I’ll need to figure that out at one point. Objects behind the fin look all blurred, which is a really neat effect.
Didn’t have time to work on her weight painting tonight, but I’ll get to that soon, hopefully.
Should I have her fins translucent or opaque? Vote here, yo.
Made some minor improvements for the Khryll rig!
Mostly just for bringing it up to my current standard of quality.
Weight paints still need drastic reworking, since I just made a quick armature and used automatic weights at the time of creation.
Jujehyu for size comparison.
