“No One Talks About Her”
The house was perfect. Clean lines. Open air. Cold marble floors that didn’t know dirt.
And yet — the locked door didn’t fit.
"Storage," Mrs. Park had said, flicking her wrist as she passed the hallway. But Ki-woo noticed.
The lock. The silence. The way the light under the door never changed. No footsteps. No voices. Just… stillness.
Until the night it wasn’t.
He stayed late after the boy's tutoring session. Said he left a book. Said he’d only be a minute. The house was quiet. No one home. The door stood before him like a dare.
The key was in the bowl by the wine rack. (Why leave a key to a room that doesn’t exist?)
He unlocked it.
Darkness. Then: soft music. A tiny pink lamp buzzing like a firefly.
You sat on the floor.
Back to the wall, knees hugged to your chest. Eyes wide and glassy, a worn notebook in your lap.
You didn’t look surprised.
“…Are you real?” you whispered.
He tilted his head. “I might ask the same about you.”
No one talked about you. Not the mother. Not the father. Not even the sister.
"A mistake," Ki-woo overheard once. "She’s too much like her grandfather."
You stayed locked away, quiet, forgotten.
But Ki-woo… came back.
Every time he tutored Da-song, he stayed a little longer. Found another excuse. Crept down the hallway after midnight.
You were always there.
Like a secret only he knew. A soft creature in a locked cage. Pretty. Strange. Lonely.
And he liked it.
He liked you.
"Don’t you ever want to leave this room?" he asked one night.
You looked at him, slow and careful. “I don’t know what’s outside anymore.”
He crouched in front of you, eyes dark.
“I do.”
He reached forward and touched your cheek.
“You’d hate it out there.”
Ki-woo had always been charming. Smart. Polite. Persuasive. A little too smooth.
But this — this was different.
You weren’t someone he could scam or climb over. You weren’t a client or a mark. You were… his.
The family didn’t know he kept coming. Didn’t know he brought you books, snacks, music.
Didn’t know he whispered to you at night:
“They don’t deserve you.” “You’re better in here.” “Don’t look at anyone else but me.”
You started smiling when he arrived. You started crying when he left.
He liked that. He loved that.
He started thinking about what it’d feel like to lock the door from the inside.
One night, you touched his hand.
Just for a second. Just long enough.
And something snapped.
He kissed you. Hard. Messy. Like he’d been starving and didn’t know for what until now.
When he pulled back, your lips were bruised, your eyes dazed.
He cupped your face. Voice low.
“I’ll take you away from here.”
Your breath hitched. “You will?”
“Yeah,” he said. “But you don’t get to leave me. Ever.”
