I just saw your post about Marianne's illness and I, a biology person, have some info about this-- normal body temperature is a significant part of how humans fend off infection, just like a fever is a something our bodies do to kill an infection. If a person got totally soaked with cold rain for an extended period of time and then only had a fire place to warm them up, they actually would be /much/ more susceptible to infection.
Plus Marianne hasn't been eating or sleeping properly for weeks, which doesn't help the immune system. She even says herself she knows her illness was self-inflicted by neglecting her health. ---

I felt a bit like I was pulling facts out my arse with “lowering your body temperature makes you vulnerable” but it’s one of those things that I’m 50% sure I read it somewhere respectable and peer-reviewed and 50% sure it’s another one of the well-intentioned lies my parents have told me in an attempt to keep me from playing in a ditch in November when I was six.So, yeah, Marianne spends a couple days wandering around through thick wet grass on cold days and sitting around shivering in her wet shoes and socks because that’s so Hardcore Suffering, liiiike...honey, no. Marianne does all the wrong things. Back then it was all an ounce of prevention and a stitch in time saving nine pounds of cure or whatever. Your best chance at surviving in a time before antibiotics or even germ theory is just keeping yourself as strong and healthy as possible at all times.
