Jon: Well, my dad died.

Agnes: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that

Jon: My mom died a little while later.

Agnes: Oh.

Jon: Then my grandma adopted me. She loved me—

Agnes: Oh?

Jon: —But I don't think she liked me. At all. Then she died.

Agnes: Oh…

Jon: then Mr.Wright adopted me. He gave me cloths that fit and homeschooled me. He could be very harsh, but it was kind of nice to be treated like a person instead of a child.

Jon: He died too. Now I'm Elias’s ward.

Agnes, trying so hard not to hard not to feed on him: That’s nice, dove.
